TPO - To facilitate information retrieval, easily locate specific streets, and create a highlight for tourism development, the Hanoi Department of Transport has proposed a pilot program to attach QR codes to many streets in Hanoi's Old Quarter.

Regarding this matter, a representative from the Hanoi Department of Transport said that QR codes will be affixed to street name signs along the streets.

The QR codes are integrated into a database containing street names, biographies of cultural figures after whom the streets are named, and landmarks in the area, displaying geographical location, route, length, etc.

"In addition to facilitating information retrieval and street location, attaching QR codes to street names also creates a tourism highlight, aligning with the trend of using information technology, the digital transformation policy, and open applications to promote tourism and build Hoan Kiem district into a civilized, modern, and key tourist destination... in line with current technological trends," a representative from the Hanoi Department of Transport informed.

If the proposal is approved by the city, in the upcoming first phase, 69 poles on 15 streets in Hanoi's Old Quarter that are currently pedestrian zones on weekends, and 70 poles on 16 streets in the Hoan Kiem Lake area and its surroundings will be fitted with QR codes.
