The majority of these remaining subscribers are in rural, mountainous and remote areas. The target customers are the elderly, with little need to use.

“We go directly to customers to help them switch. Less than 100,000 2G only subscribers by October 15 are considered to have achieved the target,” Mr. Tinh said.

For VNPT network, by the morning of October 11, VNPT network only had about 150,000 2G only subscribers.

It is expected that in the next 4 days, VinaPhone will continue to mobilize employees nationwide to support customers in converting their devices, aiming to achieve the goal of having less than 100,000 2G subscribers by October 15.

VinaPhone representative also said that after October 15, VinaPhone will continue to exchange devices, provide support, and ensure that 100% of customers can use the service.

MobiFone has 47,919 2G only subscribers. If calculated based on the criteria of not using 2G devices for 30 days, MobiFone only has about 20,000 subscribers left. After another week, the number of 2G only subscribers of MobiFone will only be about 10,000.

A representative of the Vietnamobile network said that as of October 11, there were still about 17,000 2G subscribers...

A few network operators still have from a few hundred to a few thousand 2G subscribers and are continuing to communicate to customers to switch...

Regarding how to handle 2G only subscribers who have not converted after October 15, Deputy Director of the Telecommunications Department Nguyen Phong Nha said that according to regulations, the provision of two-way calling services for these subscribers will have to be stopped.

In the near future, network operators need to add new forms of communication to customers using 2G only, increase the number of staff meeting customers to ensure users are fully informed...

“For subscribers who stop providing services after October 15, I suggest that network operators continue to have customer care policies to convert these subscribers to 4G terminals, ensuring consumer rights,” said Mr. Nha.

According to the Deputy Director of the Telecommunications Department, the process of stopping 2G technology is divided into 2 phases. The first phase from October 15, stops providing 2G only subscriber terminal services. By September 2026, the entire 2G network will be stopped to reserve resources for newer networks such as 4G, 5G to ensure efficient use of frequency resources.
