In particular, the improved T-54B version, upgraded and modernized by the General Department of Logistics and Technical Services, is equipped with many superior intelligent features, possessing high strike power and offensive capabilities on the battlefield.
In historical campaigns such as the Route 9 - Southern Laos campaign, Quang Tri, the Central Highlands, and the Ho Chi Minh campaign, these tanks achieved many victories.

Currently, the upgraded T-54B tank version is on display and being introduced to the public by the Ministry of Defense at the National Achievements Exhibition (Dong Anh commune, Hanoi).
According to published information, the T-54B tank is an improved version of the T54/T55 tank series. It has a combat weight of 36.3 tons and a crew of four (commander, gunner, driver, and loader). The tank is 9 meters long, 3.27 meters wide, and 2.75 meters high.
In the improved version, the vehicle's engine was upgraded, resulting in greater performance and higher speed compared to the original T-54. The maximum speed can reach 50 km/h; the range is 550 km on paved roads and 520 km on unpaved roads.
Thanks to engine improvements, the T-54B can overcome various terrains and obstacles such as 30-degree slopes, 25-degree inclines, trenches, submerged areas, and vertical cliffs…
In terms of firepower, the T-54B is equipped with a 100 mm main gun, manually loaded, capable of carrying 38 rounds. The main gun's rate of fire is 7 rounds per minute. Ammunition types for the upgraded T-54B include high-velocity armor-piercing rounds; armor-piercing rounds; and high-explosive rounds.

In addition to the main gun, the tank is also equipped with a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun and a 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun.
One of the key improvements on the T-54B is its aiming and fire control system, which utilizes thermal imaging, laser rangefinders, and a ballistic trajectory calculation system based on weather sensors.
In addition to weapon system upgrades, the T-54B also received significant defensive upgrades through the integration of ATV-54 explosive reactive armor around the hull and turret. Specifically, the tank's gun system was reinforced with box armor at the front and cage armor at the rear, providing protection against conventional anti-tank weapons.
In addition to the reinforced exterior armor, the interior of the vehicle is equipped with an automatic fire suppression system based on temperature sensors; a system to counter weapons of mass destruction; and smoke grenade launchers.
Compared to the un-upgraded T-54 models, the T-54B is equipped with a more modern communication system manufactured domestically in Vietnam, such as the RF-2050 radio transceiver with a range of 25 km and high anti-jamming capabilities.
