On the evening of December 12th, 19-year-old swimmer Nguyen Quang Thuan caused a sensation in the swimming arena at the 33rd SEA Games by surpassing his senior teammate Tran Hung Nguyen in his specialty event, the 400m individual medley. This is the first gold medal for Anh Vien's younger brother after participating in three SEA Games.

Following her younger brother Nguyen Quang Thuan's impressive achievement, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien shared: "I know what you've been through. After winning the gold medal, Nguyen Quang Thuan confided: "I am very happy to have won my first gold medal at the SEA Games. I want to dedicate this medal to my country, Vietnam, and to the fans. I am very proud to have contributed my efforts to the achievements of Vietnamese swimming. Before I went to Thailand for the SEA Games, Anh Vien advised me to try my best. I have achieved what I wanted, even though I didn't put too much pressure on myself to achieve a high result. I still have another event at the 33rd SEA Games, the 200m butterfly."
With the encouragement and support of his sister Ánh Viên and his teammates, Nguyễn Quang Thuấn promises to perform brilliantly not only at the SEA Games 33 but also in upcoming international competitions.
