In fact, Quang Thuan's time of 4 minutes 19 seconds 98 in tonight's final race (December 12th) almost broke the SEA Games record.

However, Quang Thuan himself sometimes doubted he could defeat his senior, Tran Hung Nguyen, in the men's 400m freestyle event. The swimmer said: "I didn't set high expectations for the result before entering this event. I just thought that I needed to try my best."
"I came to the SEA Games 33 with the goal of surpassing myself, and then trying to achieve the best results in the events I participate in," the 19-year-old swimmer surprisingly added.

Despite being just over a second short of the SEA Games record held by Tran Hung Nguyen (4 minutes 18 seconds 10), Nguyen Quang Thuan did not consider himself to have performed exceptionally well tonight.
Ánh Viên's younger brother honestly shared: "It looks simple, but to be even a second faster than Trần Hưng Nguyên's record, I still have a lot of training to do."
Quang Thuấn won the gold medal in the men's 400m individual medley.
"Therefore, I can't say I regret not breaking the record. I understand that I still need to work much harder in the future. This is my first gold medal after participating in the SEA Games three times."
"Given the fame and achievements that 'Big Sister' Anh Vien has won at the SEA Games, I understand that I am still nothing compared to her accomplishments. That is my motivation to strive, not a source of pressure," Nguyen Quang Thuan affirmed.
