Despite being not far from the bustling national highway connecting Lao Cai and Sa Pa, the people of Sin Chai village have long dreamed of having electricity from the national grid. To bring electricity to the village before the New Year, Sa Pa power company officials and workers raced against time to complete the electrical system. The joy was overwhelming when the first lights in the village were switched on, warming the homes shrouded in mist and helping to alleviate the biting cold of the mountainous winter.
“Previously, my family and some neighboring households shared a single power line, but the weak electricity was only enough to light one bulb. Our house was always dim, making it very difficult for our children and grandchildren to study. We had a small corn milling machine to use for livestock, but every time we needed to use it, we had to ask other households to temporarily stop cooking or watching TV because the electricity was too weak. Now that we have national grid electricity, the people are very happy,” shared Mr. Chảo Chỉn Và from Sín Chải village.
With the national power grid reaching the village, the daily lives of the villagers will become more convenient. Many households have purchased televisions, rice cookers, and other household appliances to serve their daily needs. In the evenings, after a hard day's work, people can gather around the television, watch entertainment programs, catch up on the news, or learn about economic models from other localities. The children in the village now have enough light to study, no longer having to squint under the weak light from the water supply as before.
“Although our village is not far from the center, the rugged terrain puts the villagers at a great disadvantage. Previously, some households independently extended low-voltage power lines to share the electricity supply, but this was unsafe and the power was very weak. Now that we have the national power grid, the villagers are very happy and hope that more households will escape poverty in the new year,” added Chảo Láo Ú, head of Sín Chải village.
The village of Sín Chải, perched precariously on a mountainside, presented a significant challenge in the construction of the power grid. Transporting equipment, poles, wires, and other necessary materials to the village had to be done entirely by hand in many sections of the road, as machinery could not access the area. Furthermore, funding and manpower were also difficult issues. Investing in bringing electricity to remote villages like Sín Chải required substantial costs, while the local economy remained limited.
However, thanks to the determination of the power sector and support from the government, the project was completed just before the New Year. To ensure that the villagers could fully enjoy the benefits, Sa Pa Power Company also provided poor households in the village with all the necessary electrical equipment and instructed them on how to use electricity safely and economically.
This year's cold winter days in Sin Chai have been warmer, not only thanks to electricity but also because of the people's belief in a brighter future. Life here will gradually improve, opening up many opportunities for economic development and enhancing the material and spiritual lives of the ethnic people in the village.
