According to CNN on June 20, experts are concerned about the potential consequences for the submarine that went missing while visiting the Titanic wreck in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Titan submersible lost contact with the Polar Prince surface vessel on the morning of June 18th. It is designed to remain submerged for 96 hours (4 days). It is unclear whether the submersible is still submerged or has surfaced but lost contact. Currently, numerous ships and aircraft from the US and Canada, along with advanced equipment, are participating in the search effort.

The US and Canada are searching for the submarine carrying the billionaire who went missing while diving to visit the Titanic wreck.

After nearly two days of fruitless searching, experts are becoming less optimistic and are suggesting possible consequences for the submersible in similar situations.

A major risk is a power outage, leading to a loss of communication, according to Eric Fusil, a submarine expert and associate professor at the University of Adelaide (Australia). Some submarines have a backup power source in case the primary one fails. However, it is unclear whether the Titan submarine has a backup power source, according to Fusil.

The Titan submersible can remain underwater for up to 96 hours continuously.

Another possibility is an electrical short circuit causing a fire on board, which would not only damage the ship itself but also create a toxic fume in the small, confined space, posing a significant danger to those on board.

Furthermore, according to Fusil, another risk is that the ship could leak, and the immense pressure at a depth of nearly 4,000 meters near the Titanic wreck could cause many ships to be crushed.

The Titan spacecraft is equipped with safety features that monitor pressure and send alerts to the captain if a problem occurs.

The ultimate risk is that the submarine could become trapped. With strong underwater currents and the Titanic wreck area on the seabed, there is a risk of the submarine getting stuck, according to Fusil.

The identities of the 5 passengers

Although authorities have not publicly released the identities of any of the five passengers on the submarine, their friends, relatives, and companies have begun to release information.

Accordingly, British billionaire Hamish Harding (58 years old) was among the passengers on the missing ship.

Mr. Harding is a British businessman living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is the founder of Action Group and chairman of Action Aviation, an international aircraft brokerage firm based in the UAE. The billionaire participated in the One More Orbit mission in 2019, which set a record for the fastest flight between the two poles.

The surface vessel Polar Prince had previously transported the submersible to the diving location.

According to information Harding had previously posted on social media, diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet was expected to accompany him. CBC quoted Canadian diver Larry Daley as saying that Nargeolet had joined the expedition.

Diver Nargeolet led several expeditions to the Titanic wreck and oversaw the recovery of numerous items from the wreck, according to E/M Group, the U.S. company where he served as director of underwater research.

The other two passengers were Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Sulaiman. Their family said the two had boarded the ship. According to the institute's website, Mr. Dawood is a trustee of the SETI Institute, a research organization in California. He is also the vice president of the Dawood Hercules Investment Group (Pakistan).
