The survey team included the following delegates: Nguyen Duc Hai - Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Ta Van Ha - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education ; Duong Van Phuoc - Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Dang Thi Bao Trinh - Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education; representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and leaders of Thang Binh district.
Reporting to the National Assembly delegation, the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Thanh Hong, stated that the project to restore the Thap Sang gate, part of the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery National Special Monument complex, has just been reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which has provided advice and recommendations for its completion and urgent restoration.
According to the plan, in 2025, Quang Nam province will allocate funds to relocate graves located near the historical site out of the core zone and provide compensation to affected households. Based on a comprehensive zoning plan, a restoration and preservation plan will be developed.
Quang Nam has repeatedly worked with Indian experts; however, the Indian side is currently focusing on supporting the restoration work at My Son temples and towers. Later, if Quang Nam completes its planning and archaeological excavations and needs to restore any projects, Indian experts will participate.
According to Mr. Hong, the department is currently advising the Provincial People's Committee to register a list of projects to be worked on with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and therefore hopes to receive attention from central government leaders.
"In the cultural development program, the central government should pay attention to investing resources in special national relics and world cultural heritage sites to help Quang Nam do even better in preserving and promoting heritage values," Mr. Hong shared.
According to Mr. Hong, Quang Nam province is expected to host a national-level scientific conference in 2025. The Vietnam Buddhist Association will soon collaborate with the province to conduct surveys and prepare the agenda for this conference.
Quang Nam province plans that after planning and archaeological excavation, it will restore the site, attract investment for the development of spiritual tourism, and strictly protect the core area to ensure the safety of the historical site.
According to Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Association is very interested in the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery National Special Monument Complex. This is because the complex has many valuable aspects for historical research and archaeological studies.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Hai suggested that Quang Nam should make every effort to restore, preserve, and promote the values of historical relics. He urged them to promptly work with relevant ministries and agencies to consult with experts in order to find ways to overcome difficulties and obstacles in the necessary procedures and documentation...
The Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery was formed and developed between the 9th and 11th centuries. In the early 20th century, archaeological excavations by French scholars uncovered a large and unique Buddhist architectural complex, considered one of the finest in Southeast Asia. In 2016, the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery site was classified as a special national historical site by the Prime Minister. Currently, the protected area of the complex covers 5.3 hectares.
