Previously, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism received a petition from voters in Quang Nam province requesting early attention to investing in the preservation and restoration of the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery to promote its historical and cultural value and to live up to its status as a Special National Monument.
The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery (Thang Binh district) has been classified as a special national historical site according to Decision No. 2499 dated December 12, 2016, of the Prime Minister .
Therefore, it is proposed that the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, based on Government Decree No. 166 dated December 25, 2018, which stipulates the authority, procedures, and processes for the preparation, appraisal, and approval of plans and projects for the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of historical and cultural relics and scenic landscapes, proceed with the preparation of the planning task and the restoration plan for Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery, and submit them to the competent authorities for consideration and approval.
According to the response, in implementing the resolutions of the National Assembly and the Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has developed a National Target Program on cultural development for the period 2025-2035.
On September 13, 2024, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed and submitted Report No. 444 to the National Assembly for consideration and expected approval at the 8th session, which includes a component project on the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values.
In the coming period, after the program is approved by the competent authorities, based on proposals from localities, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to compile a list of investment projects to preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage; at the same time, it will request the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-administered cities to proactively include investment funds for the cultural sector in their medium-term plans as well as mobilize other legal sources of capital to implement them.
