Businesses step firmly into Da Nang's new opportunities

Building from "fishing village" to open city

With nearly two decades of experience in the technology sector, Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Young Entrepreneurs Association and Manager of the Swiss Entrepreneurship Program (Swiss EP) in Da Nang, used the image of a "riverside fishing village" to recall the early days of the information technology industry in Da Nang.

In those days, the rare good job opportunities did not come from within the city, but from connections with friends, through software outsourcing for foreign enterprises. It was through this path that Mr. Chuong had the opportunity to rub shoulders, practice skills, and gradually approach international standard processes.

On that basis, at the end of 2015, he was involved with the DNES Business Incubator, the first public-private incubator model in Da Nang, born from the enthusiasm of the city's leaders. This was also an important turning point, opening up a new connection space for Mr. Chuong and the young business community. In just over a decade, Da Nang has witnessed a spectacular breakthrough.

If in 2024, the city was first ranked 896th by the StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Research and Mapping Center, then after one year, this position increased 130 places, reaching 766th. For Mr. Chuong, this is proof of an increasingly dynamic startup ecosystem, expanding connections and being recognized by the international community.

Comparing Da Nang today with the image of a "livable, worth-visiting city", in contrast to the "riverside fishing village" of the past, Mr. Chuong believes that the biggest difference is opportunity.

It is an opportunity to access knowledge, better jobs, connect with talent, capital, experts and global markets. Da Nang has created a superior environment with administrative reform, information technology infrastructure, smart cities... strongly promoting the digital economy and creative startups.

The city has established the Startup Network Coordination Council, prioritized the development of high-quality human resources, improved infrastructure and offered many preferential policies for businesses. These efforts have opened the door for the startup community, affirming the government's willingness to learn and accompany the business community.

From Mr. Chuong’s personal story, it can be seen that Da Nang is transforming itself towards an open city, ready to provide opportunities and accompany entrepreneurs and businesses. To have the development environment like today, business associations have played an important role as a bridge.

As a bridge between the government and businesses and businesses with businesses, Mr. Tran Quoc Bao, Chairman of the Danang City Business Association, said that in recent times, the association has actively implemented many practical activities such as: supporting businesses to overcome difficulties, promoting trade, connecting investments, training human resources, developing innovative startups and improving management capacity for entrepreneurs.

Through many channels of dialogue, consultation and recommendations, the association promptly conveyed the voice of businesses to the leaders of Quang Nam province (formerly), contributing to the development of appropriate mechanisms and policies, improving the investment and business environment in an increasingly open, transparent and effective direction.

Mr. Bao emphasized that one of the core values that the association pursues is to build the spirit of "Creative Government, Accompanying Enterprises" with the motto "Solidarity - Sharing - Firm Integration", joining hands for the sustainable socio-economic development of the city. This is also the basis for the business community to strengthen confidence, boldly invest, expand production and increasingly contribute to the budget, create jobs, and ensure social security.

“After the merger, the city has a lot of room for new development and a lot of potential. The Association hopes to continue to receive the attention and close direction of the city's leaders, the support and close coordination of departments, branches and localities. Thereby, taking advantage of many special mechanisms and policies, creating new opportunities for businesses.

Only then can the association maximize its role, continue to fulfill its mission as a reliable bridge between businesses and the government, accompany businesses to overcome difficulties, effectively exploit new opportunities, and develop stably, quickly and sustainably," Mr. Bao shared.

Renewing the role of a bridge

In the context of the country's strong innovation - a new opportunity for the Vietnamese economy in general and Da Nang city in particular, the business community and entrepreneurs have more expectations for the transformation and socio-economic development than ever before. Also in this flow, the business community and enterprises are increasingly aware of the role, commitment and adaptability that need to be promoted to the highest level.

For example, the Danang City Women Entrepreneurs Association identifies the role of the association at present as not only a bridge between the government and businesses in the old way, but also promoting the spirit of innovation of women in the city in the digital age, integration and sustainable development.

Ms. Le Thi Nam Phuong, Chairwoman of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Da Nang City, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of LIFE Investment Joint Stock Company, shared that the issuance of Resolution 68-NQ/TW of the Politburo on private economic development is a great opportunity, opening up development space and creating strong motivation for private enterprises in Vietnam.

With the mission of gathering, uniting, and promoting the talents and intelligence of the city's female business community in the new period, the association will continue to inherit and promote the traditional values of Vietnamese women, which are kindness, perseverance, and tolerance, while creating new modern values, contributing to realizing the aspiration to bring the country further and making Da Nang a center of innovation and dynamic development of the whole region.

As a large business association in the city with about 800 members, every year, member businesses of the Da Nang City Young Entrepreneurs Association create jobs for about 60,000 workers, generate revenue of about 40,000 billion VND, contribute 1,500 billion VND to the budget, export turnover of 300 million USD, promote the city's economic growth.

In the context of the city's new opportunities, the young business community is also making efforts to "renew" themselves to adapt.

“With the support of local authorities, associations and the young business community in Da Nang, we will be a reliable support for investors in the journey of expansion and sustainable development. Not just a “bridge”, we hope that the association will join hands with partners to create an innovative ecosystem - where technology meets people, where investment is linked to social responsibility, and where cooperation brings real value.
