(HNMO) - According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation, as part of the plan towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese national team will play a friendly match against Syria on June 20th at Thien Truong Stadium ( Nam Dinh ).
Besides the friendly match against the Hong Kong (China) national team on June 15th at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ), the Vietnamese national team will have another "test." Accordingly, on June 20th, coach Philippe Troussier's players will face the Syrian national team – currently ranked 90th, five places higher than Vietnam in the FIFA rankings.
The Syrian national team also reached the final qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in the Asian region, just like Vietnam. Syria earned 6 points in this qualifying round, with one win against Lebanon and three draws against Iraq (twice) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Syrian team also showed their resilience, only narrowly losing to World Cup-qualified teams like Iran and South Korea in the first leg of that qualifying round.
Leading the Syrian national team is the renowned coach Hector Cuper. The 65-year-old strategist has previously managed famous European clubs such as Valencia, Inter Milan, Real Betis, and Parma. More recently, he coached Egypt, Uzbekistan, and Congo before coming to Syria.
Syria's squad boasts many quality players. Several are currently playing in Europe, such as Abdul Weiss, Oliver Kawo, Amma Ramadan, and Simon Amin…
At the 2023 Asian Cup finals, the Syrian national team was also in Group 3 of the seeded teams along with Vietnam and the teams of Bahrain, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, and Lebanon.
