Black water on many streets in Ho Chi Minh City after heavy rain

VietNamNetVietNamNet16/08/2023

Nguyen Duy Trinh Street, near the Thu Duc City Labor Federation (branch 1) was flooded about 0.5m deep. "After many months, this street has repeated the above scene. The flood water is not only rainwater but also sewer water that rises after the rain, so it is so black," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut, a resident on Nguyen Duy Trinh Street.

Nguyen Duy Trinh is also the most heavily flooded street in Ho Chi Minh City after the heavy rain on the afternoon of August 16. Some streets in Thu Duc City such as Do Xuan Hop, Nguyen Xien... also experienced similar situations but to a lesser extent.

Many people believe that the drainage system in this area may have problems. In addition, Nguyen Duy Trinh Street is located near a densely populated area, so a large amount of domestic wastewater cannot be drained for a long time, causing pollution and foul odor.

In recent days, heavy rain has continuously occurred in Ho Chi Minh City, causing localized flooding. According to information from the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, from today until August 20, thunderstorms will gradually increase in the South, with total rainfall ranging from 150-200mm, with some places exceeding 200mm. It is forecasted that this is one of the localities that will continue to be affected by heavy rain in the next few days.

A plastic barrel was swept away by water in the middle of Nguyen Duy Trinh street after the rain.

"I was passing this road when I picked up my child from school and encountered a flood. The kindergarten is nearby, so picking up and dropping off children is difficult when it rains. I hope the authorities will soon find a solution," said My Hanh.

This afternoon, the scene of car engine failure is also quite common.

Bao and his friend tried to push the stalled motorbike to a less flooded area. "I'm fed up with the flooding in Ho Chi Minh City these past few days. Whenever it rains heavily and lasts for about an hour, the water floods everywhere," said Bao.

Water flooded the moon cake stall of a group of vendors on Nguyen Duy Trinh Street. They had to raise the cabinet to prevent the cakes from spoiling.

Many people stopped on the sidewalk waiting for the water to recede before continuing to move.

According to the reporter's observation, the flood water on Nguyen Duy Trinh street receded quite slowly.
