Dong Thap focuses on reducing poverty in 2026

On December 9, the People's Council of Dong Thap province, term X, 2021-2026, held the 6th session to consider issuing resolutions within its authority.

At the session, delegates listened to presentations with draft resolutions, discussed and unanimously voted to pass 10 important resolutions related to socio- economic development, budget, land, regimes, policies and many other areas under their authority.

Chairwoman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Council Chau Thi My Phuong said: In 2025, besides the favorable conditions, the world and domestic context continues to have many unpredictable fluctuations; the international economic recovery is still slow, natural disasters and climate change have directly impacted agricultural production and people's lives. The production process, the restructuring of administrative units as well as the organization of two-level local governments have been implemented synchronously, but there are still certain difficulties and obstacles.

However, all levels, sectors and localities have closely followed policies and practical situations, focusing on directing the drastic, flexible and effective implementation of tasks and solutions in all fields.

In 2025, the province's socio-economic development situation is quite good, with 22/24 main targets reaching and exceeding the plan; GRDP per capita is estimated at 85.5 million VND. Budget revenue is estimated at more than 21,842 billion VND, reaching 105.6% of the estimate; export turnover is 9.208 billion USD; total social investment capital increased by more than 12% compared to the previous year; the number of newly established enterprises increased sharply, reaching more than 2,500 enterprises. The fields of culture, education, health, social security achieved many positive results... Administrative reform, digital transformation, improving the quality of service to the people achieved many changes.

According to the Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province, 2026 is a year with many opportunities intertwined with challenges, requiring high political determination, a strong spirit of action and the synchronous participation of the entire political system. Therefore, all levels, sectors and localities urgently develop programs and plans to implement the resolution of the Provincial People's Council on socio-economic development tasks in 2026. Units need to clearly identify key tasks; clearly assign responsibilities and implementation roadmap. The work of adjusting the Planning of Dong Thap province for the period 2021-2030 and vision to 2050 needs to be completed, implemented synchronously, unified in development orientation, ensuring compliance with regulations.

All levels, sectors and localities continue to mobilize and effectively use resources for investment in infrastructure development and socio-economic development, focusing on important projects and works, driving forces for growth. Dong Thap province focuses on key infrastructure projects, human resource development, poverty reduction, new rural construction and digital transformation; well implement social security work, care for people's lives; proactively respond to climate change, prevent natural disasters, landslides, etc.

* 10 resolutions passed at the 6th Session - Dong Thap Provincial People's Council :

- Resolution on the Socio-Economic Development Plan of Dong Thap Province in 2026.

- Resolution regulating training support policies for international students from the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia studying at public colleges under the management of Dong Thap province.

- Resolution stipulating the conditions on minimum housing area to register permanent residence at legal accommodation rented, borrowed, or stayed at in Dong Thap province.

- Resolution on state budget revenue estimates in the province, local budget revenue and expenditure in 2026; local budget allocation in 2026.

- Resolution regulating the content and level of financial support for implementing the Trade Promotion Program of Dong Thap province.

- Resolution approving the List of land acquisition projects and works in 2026 in Dong Thap province.

- Resolution regulating the collection rates, collection, payment, management and use of fees for exploitation and use of water resources in Dong Thap province.

- Resolution regulating criteria for establishing Civil Defense Teams and criteria for the number of Civil Defense Team members in Dong Thap province.

- Resolution regulating the expenditure level to ensure the operation of the Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in Dong Thap province.

- Resolution regulating the collection rates, collection and payment regime of civil status fees in Dong Thap province.
