Equipped with knowledge from a culinary vocational training course organized by the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Dong Van district in coordination with the Center for Vocational Education and Continuing Education, after graduating from the course two months later, Ms. Ly Mi Say (Doan Ket village, Sung La commune) has become a chef at a restaurant in the area.
Speaking about the changes in her life since having a stable job, Ms. Say said: "At the vocational school, I was equipped with basic knowledge and skills such as cutting, decorating, and preparing many dishes. Recognizing that tourism is a strength of the locality, after graduating from the cooking class, my family and I opened a restaurant to serve tourists. The effective implementation of vocational training and job placement programs has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of the locality. The results of the review of poor households, near-poor households, and households with average living standards at the end of 2024 in Dong Van district have shown encouraging results.
Specifically, throughout the district, there are 7,098 poor households with over 37,000 people, accounting for 41.27%; a decrease of 1,684 households (10.14%) compared to 2023; 2,200 near-poor households with 11,600 people, accounting for 12.79%; a decrease of 221 households (1.38%) compared to 2023. Non-poor households number 7,900, with over 39,000 people, accounting for 45.94%. The multidimensional poverty reduction rate reached 1,905 households, or 11.53%.
In the coming period, Dong Van district will continue to focus on effectively implementing vocational training policies and providing job placement services for laborers, especially ethnic minority workers from poor households; paying attention to providing job placement and vocational training in remote, mountainous areas with limited arable land.
At the same time, continue to effectively implement mechanisms and policies to support workers' participation in the labor market; innovate job counseling and placement services; promote solutions to send workers abroad under contract and to work in industrial zones, clusters, and enterprises inside and outside the province; and create local jobs through socio-economic development programs.
