Amidst the excitement of the Party committee, government, and people of the province regarding the achievements made during the first half of the term implementing the Resolution of the 22nd Provincial Party Congress, the people of Yen Khanh are also celebrating another great joy as the bridge over the Day River connecting Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces has begun construction.
The bridge connecting joys
Mr. Pham Van Thanh, from Hamlet 3, Khanh Cuong Commune, Yen Khanh District, is currently working at a steel trading company in Nghia Hung District, Nam Dinh Province. Despite the dynamic work environment and numerous opportunities for personal growth, Mr. Thanh has often considered quitting to find another job. His only difficulty is the transportation issue.
Mr. Thanh shared: "I live in Yen Khanh. Every day I have to cross the Tam Toa ferry (Khanh Trung commune) to get to work. The cost per ferry trip for a car is 30,000 VND, so a round trip is 60,000 VND, plus lunch and fuel, the estimated cost is about 200-300,000 VND per day. Not to mention the days when I have to travel a lot and cross the ferry multiple times, which is very expensive. When I heard that the bridge over the Day River connecting Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces has been started construction, I was extremely happy. This means we will soon have a new bridge to use and won't have to cross the ferry every day anymore. This helps me feel more secure and focus on my current job."
Not only for Mr. Thanh, but the bridge over the Day River has long been a dream for many people in Yen Khanh district, especially in Khanh Cuong, Khanh Trung, and Khanh Cong communes. Therefore, when they heard the news that the bridge was officially under construction, the people here were very happy and excited. Ms. Do Thi Lan, from Hamlet 19, Khanh Trung commune, said: "I often travel by ferry to Nam Dinh. However, traveling by ferry is inconvenient because of the long wait; the ferry operates until about 9 pm, so if I have urgent business, I have to postpone it until the next morning. Not to mention, traveling by ferry poses potential safety risks on the river. We hope the bridge will be completed soon and put into use to serve the lives of the people."
According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Duan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Khanh Trung commune, the trade and transportation between people in Yen Khanh district and other localities in Nam Dinh province, and vice versa, is very active. Currently, there are many ferry terminals operating in the district, such as the Muoi ferry (Khanh Thanh commune), the Ba Quan ferry (Khanh Cuong commune), the Xanh ferry (Khanh Thien commune), the Khanh Tien ferry, etc. At the Tam Toa ferry terminal in Khanh Trung commune alone, an average of thousands of people and vehicles travel daily. These are mainly workers from Nghia Hung district commuting to work at companies in Yen Khanh district and vice versa. The construction of the bridge will make travel easier for people, ensure security and safety, and promote socio-economic development in the locality.
Focus intensely on the project.
The project to build a bridge over the Day River connecting Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces, part of the Ninh Binh - Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong expressway, is being implemented according to Decision No. 17/2022 dated July 28, 2022, of the Prime Minister, which delegates the authority to the People's Committee of Nam Dinh province as the managing agency.
The project has a total investment of VND 1,450 billion. The completion date is December 2024. The project spans 2 km, passing through Khanh Cuong and Khanh Trung communes in Yen Khanh district (Ninh Binh province) and Nghia Chau, Nghia Trung, and Nghia Thai communes in Nghia Hung district (Nam Dinh province). The bridge over the river is 1.36 km long with a 19.5 m wide cross-section. The approach road is approximately 0.64 km long with a 19 m wide roadbed. The project includes 4 lanes with a design speed of 100 km/hour.
According to the leaders of Yen Khanh district, recognizing the significant importance of the project, the district has actively and proactively carried out the assigned tasks. Specifically, the Yen Khanh District People's Committee has organized the handover of the land clearance boundary markers for the construction of the bridge over the Day River connecting Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces. A Compensation, Support, and Resettlement Council has been established for land acquisition by the State for the project. The district has closely coordinated with relevant departments and agencies regarding land valuation, declaration, and inventory of land, assets, trees, and crops to develop a compensation plan for land clearance. In the coming period, the district will continue to focus on directing and organizing propaganda and mobilization efforts to ensure that the people understand the benefits of the project. This will create support and consensus in land clearance work, ensuring the project's progress. Currently, a small number of households have not yet handed over their land; the district will encourage them to hand over their land voluntarily as soon as possible.
At the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the project, the leaders of Nam Dinh province also affirmed: To ensure the project is completed soon, serving the transportation needs of the people and contributing to the socio-economic development of the two provinces, Nam Dinh province will continue to direct relevant departments, agencies, and localities to closely coordinate with the investor to synchronously carry out land clearance and related procedures during the project implementation. The investor and the construction contractor are required to effectively manage the project, supervise the construction, and strictly adhere to the procedures for basic construction investment; focus on mobilizing all resources, materials, and equipment; and implement appropriate construction methods to ensure quality, progress, and safety.
The project to build a bridge over the Day River connects important transportation routes between Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces, gradually completing the expressway from Ninh Binh to Hai Phong, strengthening intra-regional and inter-regional connectivity in the Red River Delta. When put into use, this bridge will help alleviate congestion on the existing transportation system, shorten travel distances and times for commuters, and create momentum for socio-economic development in Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh provinces.
