According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from this afternoon (September 13th) to September 14th, the Central Highlands and Southern regions will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall amounts will generally range from 40-80mm, with some areas exceeding 120mm (rain will be concentrated in the afternoon and evening).
Heavy rainfall and localized heavy rain are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes.
Regarding the flood situation on rivers in Northern Vietnam, in the coming hours, water levels on most rivers are expected to recede.
However, water levels at many downstream stations of the Red River - Thai Binh river system tend to change slowly, generally remaining at high levels, from alert level 3 to above alert level 3.
Furthermore, the process of flood drainage and reduction on the Red River system is likely to be slow, so flooding in riverside areas and alluvial plains will continue for many days in low-lying areas outside the main dikes in the provinces and cities of Hanoi, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, and Hai Duong.
Prolonged high flood levels can cause breaches in river embankments, landslides, and severely affect vulnerable riverside locations in the provinces and cities of Hanoi, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, and Ninh Binh.
Below is a forecast of flood developments on rivers in Northern Vietnam:
