As reported by Da Nang Newspaper, Radio and Television , at about 2:10 p.m. on December 3, on Nguyen Cong Tru Street, near Ngo Quyen intersection, opposite 96 Nguyen Cong Tru Street in An Hai Ward, a large subsidence occurred, creating a hole about 15 meters deep and 5 meters wide.

The subsidence area is right next to the construction site of the Capital Square 3 Urban Area project under construction.

According to the People's Committee of An Hai Ward, the underground drainage box culvert measuring 1.8m x 1.6m was broken for about 12m, causing two cars to fall and cause minor damage. No human casualties were recorded.

Reporting the cause, Hoa Binh Construction Group Joint Stock Company - the contractor of the Capital Square 3 Urban Area project, said that on the afternoon of December 3, due to prolonged heavy rain, a large amount of rainwater accumulated, causing water and sand from the sewer to overflow into the construction area of the project. As a result, the Nguyen Cong Tru street, the area adjacent to the project, collapsed, creating a large hole, damaging the drainage system.

According to the People's Committee of An Hai Ward, after the incident occurred, the authorities organized to ensure security and order, regulate traffic and block off the area. The investor and contractor inspected and deployed emergency handling measures.

On December 6, the sidewalk drainage was completed. On December 7, the investor completed stabilizing the roadbed and asphalt, and Nguyen Cong Tru Street was reopened to traffic.

The two affected cars were repaired by the investor and returned to their owners.

At the area adjacent to Ngo Quyen Street and neighboring locations, the investor reinforced the foundation of electric poles and traffic light poles; at the same time, conducted ultrasonic testing and displacement measurements to assess safety status.

The contractor is required to review all construction items, assess construction safety conditions and increase 24/7 monitoring to promptly detect new risks.

While monitoring the scene, the authorities recorded a number of motorbikes driving into the inner lane of Ngo Quyen Street - the area designated for trucks, causing traffic safety risks.

An Hai Ward People's Committee proposed to organize traffic flow, temporarily banning motorbikes and cars from entering the inner lane; at the same time, consider adding soft rubber poles to clearly separate lanes.

Infrastructure units including Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company and the City Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company are requested to strengthen inspection and supervision of underground systems on the route to take timely measures to handle and reinforce, avoiding similar incidents.
