Tay Ninh province has a border stretching over 240km with Cambodia. Along this border, the province has 15 border guard posts and 16 border gates: including 3 international border gates (Moc Bai, Xa Mat, and Tan Nam); 3 main border gates (Ka Tum, Chang Riec, and Phuoc Tan) and 10 secondary border gates; in addition, there are many cross roads and unofficial crossings.
With its unique geographical location, Tay Ninh is not only an important gateway for trade between Vietnam and ASEAN countries, but also a region with many potential issues related to national security. The border patrol road in Tay Ninh province plays an extremely important role in maintaining security and order, protecting national sovereignty , and simultaneously promoting socio-economic development for the border region.
Ensuring security and order
The border patrol road system in Tay Ninh has a total length of 209km, passing through Tan Bien, Tan Chau, Ben Cau districts and Trang Bang town. It starts at Saigon 2 Bridge (the border between Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc provinces) and ends near border marker 180 (the border between Tay Ninh and Long An provinces).

During the period 2017-2020, the Border Patrol Road in Tay Ninh province was invested in and constructed by the Ministry of National Defense in the districts of Tan Bien, Chau Thanh, Ben Cau, and Trang Bang, from the Xa Mat international border gate to the border with Long An province, with a length of 130.41 km. The project has now been completed.
During the period 2021-2025, the Border Patrol Road project passing through Tay Ninh province continued to receive investment approval from the Ministry of National Defense, with a construction length of 34.93km, completed and put into use on July 19th.
Patrol routes not only facilitate border guards in carrying out border control duties but also help improve the effectiveness of patrolling and maintaining security and order.
According to information from the Border Guard of Tay Ninh province, in 2023, functional forces inspected more than 500 vehicles crossing the border area, detecting and handling 220 cases of violations of security and order, including 100 cases of smuggling, 50 cases of transporting prohibited goods, and 70 cases related to illegal entry and exit. These figures demonstrate the important role of the patrol road system in controlling and preventing illegal activities.
In addition to patrolling and monitoring, the border also facilitates the rapid response of law enforcement agencies to emergencies. In the event of incidents such as border crossings or criminal acts, the response time of law enforcement agencies is shortened thanks to convenient transportation connections. This enhances the ability to prevent and handle unexpected situations, maintaining security and order in the border region.
Connecting trade and goods
Besides ensuring security, border patrol roads also contribute positively to the socio-economic development of Tay Ninh province. With the development of transportation infrastructure, the trade of goods between Vietnam and Cambodia has become more convenient than ever. Tay Ninh is considered an important gateway for import and export activities, facilitating the rapid and efficient transportation of goods.

According to data from the Department of Industry and Trade of Tay Ninh province, the total value of import and export turnover through the province's border gates in 2023 reached approximately 1 billion USD, with Moc Bai border gate accounting for the majority at 700 million USD. Improving transportation infrastructure not only helps increase trade turnover but also creates many job opportunities for local people, boosting economic development.
Border patrol roads are also part of the local transportation network, contributing to the development of other economic sectors such as tourism, services, and trade. Areas near the border have attracted investment from many businesses, creating numerous business opportunities and improving the lives of the people.
The development of border patrol roads not only has a positive impact on the economy but also contributes to improving the quality of life for people living along the border. With improved roads, the transportation of goods becomes easier, helping to reduce living costs and increase income for the people.
According to statistics, the average per capita income in the border districts of Tay Ninh province increased from 2.8 million VND/month in 2020 to approximately 4.5 million VND/month in 2023. This improvement is due not only to facilitated trade but also to investment in infrastructure development, such as schools, health centers, and other public services. In particular, people have had better access to healthcare and education services, helping to improve educational levels and public health.
In addition, social welfare programs have been strongly implemented to support people in the areas of education, health, and economic development. Local authorities have coordinated with organizations and businesses to implement many support programs, helping people improve their vocational skills, thereby improving their income and living conditions.

Although border patrol roads have made a positive contribution to ensuring security and order and promoting economic development, the security situation in the Tay Ninh border area still faces many challenges. Smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration remain complex issues, requiring timely action from law enforcement agencies.
The border patrol roads in Tay Ninh province not only play a crucial role in protecting national security but are also a key factor in the socio-economic development of the border region. Through data and evidence, it is clear that the development of transportation infrastructure has created many opportunities for local development and improved the lives of the people there.
