The signing ceremony took place on the morning of June 12, marking the beginning of a comprehensive cooperation relationship between the city and AMD in areas such as research and development; training high-tech human resources and implementing digital transformation initiatives. This cooperation was promoted by SunEdu InternationalEducation Joint Stock Company, AMD's strategic partner in Vietnam.

Accompanying the training of high quality human resources

Under the memorandum of understanding, AMD will participate in programs led by the Ho Chi Minh City government, including policy testing, co-hosting innovation-promoting events, and assessing the investment environment at the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-Tech Park (SHTP).

The group will also coordinate with domestic educational institutions to improve the professional capacity of lecturers, students and officials of departments, branches and sectors.

Also within the framework of the signing ceremony, the Electronics and Semiconductor Center (ESC) at SHTP was officially transformed into ESC International. This is a place to focus on training high-quality human resources in the fields of AI, electronics and semiconductor design.

At the signing ceremony, Mr. Ryan Sim, senior director of business in Asia- Pacific and Japan, affirmed AMD's long-term commitment to investing in education, technology transfer and promoting innovation in Vietnam.

One of the strategic focuses is to establish an internationally recognized education and training center specializing in AI and high performance computing (HPC).

According to Mr. Ryan Sim, the goal of this initiative is to "develop high-quality human resources and turn Ho Chi Minh City into a regional high-tech center".

Revealing more about specific activities, Mr. Ryan Sim said that AMD has begun piloting AI applications in the medical field at People's Hospital 115, especially in diagnostic imaging - to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment. In the near future, AMD plans to expand AI applications beyond the medical field, contributing to bringing technology into life in a more practical way.

"We are committed to working closely with Ho Chi Minh City to establish an international standard training center, focusing on human resource development, promoting innovation and accelerating technology transfer," Mr. Ryan Sim emphasized.

Need to aim to master architectural design

On behalf of the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assessed that the application of semiconductor chip technology in Vietnam is "very correct" and strategic in the context of digital transformation and global technology competition. However, he emphasized that in the long term, Vietnam needs to move towards mastering the design stage, especially chip architecture design, a link that requires creativity and high technical level.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his agreement with AMD's strategic direction, focusing on developing core technologies. This approach is consistent with Vietnam's goal of building design capacity, mastering architecture and key technology solutions.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the signing of the memorandum of understanding today needs to soon realize the ideals and development philosophy of the city and AMD. This requires concretization with clear actions, a roadmap and assessment of responsibilities.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding takes place at a time of special significance, as Vietnam and the US are celebrating the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan affirmed that the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and AMD Group is very important not only for the city but also for Vietnam; a concrete demonstration of the relationship of trust and common development between the most dynamic city in Vietnam and a leading technology corporation in the world.

Founded in 1969, AMD is a world-leading technology corporation in semiconductor chip design, including microprocessors (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs) and integrated chips. Unlike traditional manufacturers, AMD operates on a model of research, development and chip architecture design. Production is outsourced to partners such as TSMC or GlobalFoundries.

AMD is now considered the most formidable competitor to NVIDIA, the 'king' of the AI chip market. Both corporations are considered the "leading shovel manufacturers" in the AI technology boom.

The company is expected to generate over $25.8 billion in revenue in 2024, with over 28,000 employees worldwide. AMD CEO Lisa Su is the first female billionaire in the semiconductor industry and the niece of NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.
