Causes and predictions

According to livestock experts, the main reason for the sharp increase in live pig prices is a localized supply shortage, while consumer demand has not changed significantly after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Forecasts suggest that live pig prices may exceed 80,000 VND/kg in the near future; however, it is unlikely to rise much higher due to the price difference between domestic and imported pork currently at 20,000 VND/kg, creating favorable conditions for imported pork to flood the market.

In other news, African swine fever is spreading rapidly in Ha Tinh province, with outbreaks reported in four localities: Cam Xuyen, Thach Ha, Ha Tinh city, and Huong Khe district. Since the Lunar New Year, more than 300 pigs have been culled due to infection. Authorities and local governments are focusing on implementing measures to prevent and control the spread of the disease.

The sharp increase in live pig prices, coupled with the complex developments of African swine fever, poses a major challenge for the livestock industry and consumers in the coming period.
