Pepper prices in the world today only increased slightly in Indonesia but continued to move sideways in other countries.
The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture believes that Japan is a potential market for the country's white and black pepper, as Japanese culinary habits depend heavily on spices, especially pepper. Speaking at a white pepper seminar in Pangkalpinang, Kuntoro Boga Andri, Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that pepper consumption in Japan is "very large", opening up opportunities to increase exports, especially for white pepper from Bangka Belitung and black pepper from Lampung.
However, according to Mr. Kuntoro, the Indonesian pepper industry is facing significant challenges as output continues to decline due to shrinking cultivation areas. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture shows that pepper output in 2025 is expected to reach only 63,461 tons, much lower than the more than 83,000 tons recorded in 2019. This declining trend puts great pressure on the goal of restoring the position of Indonesian pepper in the international market, where the country's products have to compete with major producers such as Vietnam, India and Pakistan.
In Bangka Belitung, a province famous for its distinctively flavored and highly pungent white pepper, officials have also expressed concern. Erwin Krisnawinata, acting director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Food Security, said a paradox is occurring: despite improved world pepper prices and stable demand, many farmers are still neglecting their pepper gardens because the economic efficiency is no longer as attractive as before. This poses an urgent need for support policies and production restructuring to maintain supply for export in the coming years.
Thus, the world pepper price today, December 10, 2025, is mainly unchanged compared to yesterday.
