After the tennis and pickleball tournaments, the 2025 "Ho Chi Minh City Journalists' Day" Sports Festival organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association in collaboration with Saigon Entrepreneur Magazine and the Sports Reporters Club continues with the men's and women's football competition, officially starting this weekend.
This is considered the largest exchange activity of central and local press agencies located in the city, attracting a large number of reporters, editors and leaders of the agencies to participate in commemorating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.
Tournament announcement ceremony
This year's football tournament brings together 12 men's teams, including: Thanh Nien Newspaper, HTV, VTV9, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper , VOH, Lien Quan of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper - Znews, SCTV, FPT Play, Saigon Economic Magazine and VnExpress. In the women's category, there are 4 teams participating, including Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper and SCTV.
The men's teams compete in a round-robin format in 4 groups, with no draws. In the event of a draw after 2 regular periods, the 2 teams will enter a 6m penalty shootout (each team takes 5 kicks). The winning team in the match receives 3 points, the winning penalty shootout receives 2 points, the losing penalty shootout still receives 1 point and the losing team in regular time receives no points. The top 2 teams in each group will advance to the knockout round to determine the champion.
The four women's teams also compete in a round robin, following the same principles as the men's tournament to calculate the final ranking points.
In addition to cups and medals, outstanding teams and individuals at the tournament will also receive many attractive prizes. In the men's category, the champion team will receive a cup, flag, gold medal and 10 million VND; the runner-up team will receive 5 million VND; the third-place team will receive 3 million VND; and the team winning the style award will receive an additional 2 million VND. Individual titles such as Top Scorer and Best Goalkeeper will each receive a prize of 1 million VND.
Men's draw
In the women's category, the champion team receives a cup, flag, gold medal and 4 million VND; the runner-up team receives 2 million VND; the third-place team receives 1.5 million VND and the consolation prize team receives an additional 1 million VND. In addition, individual titles also have a reward of 1 million VND each.
In particular, the Organizing Committee will vote and award the title of Miss Football along with a flag and a gift worth 1 million VND, to honor the beauty of female reporters and editors on the field.
The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association Football Tournament promises to bring dramatic matches, full of teamwork but also joyful and united in the true spirit of journalists in the city named after Uncle Ho.
The men's team of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper was placed in Group C with the joint teams of Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper - Znews and Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper. Meanwhile, the women's team of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper will meet the teams of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper (June 28), SCTV (July 4) and Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper (July 9).
