Today, November 20th, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (hereinafter referred to as the University of Medicine and Pharmacy) announced the decision of the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi to appoint Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, to concurrently hold the position of Vice Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Previously, on November 15th, the Ministry of Health also issued công văn (official letter) No. 7418/BYT-TCCB agreeing to Mr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, concurrently holding the position of Vice Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, born in 1972, graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 1996 with a degree in pediatrics. He then earned a master's degree in emergency resuscitation and a doctorate in anesthesiology and resuscitation. Before being appointed Director of Bach Mai Hospital (March 2022), Associate Professor Co was the Head of the Intensive Care Unit and the Deputy Director in charge of professional affairs at Bach Mai Hospital.
Also at today's event, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy officially launched its new board of directors (after 3 years of establishment), and announced the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine. Accordingly, the Board of Directors of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy currently has 5 members: 1 rector and 4 vice rectors. The rector is Professor Le Ngoc Thanh. The vice rectors include Associate Professor Pham Nhu Hai, Professor Nguyen Thanh Hai, Associate Professor Trinh Hoang Ha (Director of Hanoi National University Hospital and acting vice rector), and Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co.
According to Professor Le Ngoc Thanh, the inauguration of the new board of directors, especially the announcement of the appointment of Associate Professor Dao Xuan Co, is a particularly important milestone demonstrating the correct policy on the institutional-university relationship at a new level. This will strengthen and further improve the management, orientation, and planning of long-term strategies of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy; contributing to the fulfillment of the mission, vision, core values of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the development strategy of Hanoi National University until 2030 and the vision until 2045.
According to Professor Thanh, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy has more than 300 full-time lecturers, many of whom are People's Physicians, Distinguished Physicians, People's Teachers, Distinguished Teachers, leading experts in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, and managers currently working at prestigious central-level hospitals and pharmaceutical companies.
"Thanks to such an elite team, the university has continuously grown stronger in all aspects, training and providing hundreds of highly qualified medical personnel for the country. From just a few hundred students, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy has now increased its undergraduate and postgraduate enrollment to nearly 1,000 students per year," Professor Thanh shared.
The University of Medicine and Pharmacy is a member university of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, established by the Prime Minister under Decision 1666/QD-TTg dated October 27, 2020, based on the inheritance of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (established in May 2010). In addition to the newly established Faculty of Medicine (with 39 departments), the University of Medicine and Pharmacy also has the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Dentistry.
