Tsinghua University Professor Joins Leading AI Development in Vietnam

According to information from Vietnam National University, Hanoi , at the invitation of Professor Le Quan, Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Mr. Duong Kiet (Tang Jie) - a leading professor at Tsinghua University (China) will take on the role of Honorary Director of the Institute for Applied Research on Artificial Intelligence in Sustainable Development at the High Technology and Innovation Park, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Professor Duong Kiet is known as one of the world's leading scientists in the field of AI, especially in the research directions of data mining, machine learning, social networks and knowledge graphs. He is the "father" of the AMiner academic platform - a system with global influence, attracting tens of millions of visits from more than 220 countries and territories.

In addition, Mr. Duong Kiet is also the leader of China's large-scale AI projects such as the GLM-130B language model with 130 billion parameters and the trillion-parameter "Wudao" super model, contributing to affirming China's pioneering position in the AI era.

With groundbreaking contributions in the field of AI, especially in research on data mining, machine learning and social networks, Professor Duong Kiet will play an important role in orienting the development strategy of this field at VNU, Hanoi.

His participation is expected to help VNU-Hanoi develop a sustainable AI research and application system, serving strategic areas such as environmental protection, green economic development, healthcare and smart cities.

He will accompany the Institute for Applied Research on Artificial Intelligence in Sustainable Development in building AI solutions that not only meet the needs of technological development but also ensure that these solutions have positive and long-term impacts on the community and the environment.

Director of VNU Hanoi Le Quan and Chairman of Tsinghua University Council Khuu Dung signed and exchanged a cooperation agreement on student exchange between the two universities.

VNU Hanoi affirmed that the accompaniment of Professor Duong Kiet with the scientific activities of VNU Hanoi is a clear demonstration of the effective cooperation between VNU Hanoi and Tsinghua University.

VNU-Hanoi and Tsinghua established a relationship in 2006. In August 2024, the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in research, exchange of lecturers and researchers, students, coordination in organizing seminars, academic conferences, exchange of documents in education, research, publishing and academic information.

On March 2, under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Director of VNU Hanoi Le Quan and Chairman of Tsinghua University Council Khuu Dung signed and exchanged a cooperation agreement on student exchange between the two universities.

On the occasion of the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping from April 14-15, VNU Hanoi and Tsinghua University signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the "Vietnam - China University Network" and the memorandum of understanding demonstrating their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the field of Digital Education, jointly addressing the opportunities and challenges brought about by AI and online education.

- Test-of-Time Award at the ACM SIGKDD conference - for a paper that has had a great impact over many years.
- State Science and Technology Progress Award, Beijing Science and Technology First Prize, China Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) First Prize, and KDD Outstanding Contribution Award.
- Awarded NSFC Distinguished Young Scholar (2018), CCF Young Scientist Award (2012), and titles such as "Beijing Science and Technology Star", "Tsinghua Academic New Star".
- Become an IEEE Fellow (2021), ACM Fellow (2022) and AAAI Fellow (2023), recognizing outstanding contributions in data mining and social networks.
