Counterfeit drugs found with only 17.2% active ingredient content
The Hanoi Department of Health has just sent a document to medical facilities, pharmaceutical businesses in the area, and health departments of districts, towns, and cities about checking, handling, and tracing the origin of fake Nexium® 40mg.
The product sample has information on the label: Nexium® 40mg Enterik kapli pellet tablet (esomeprazole), batch number 23H420, expiry date 09.2027. The product sample does not have information on the circulation registration number (GĐKLH), import license number (GPNK); there is no information on the manufacturing facility or the importing facility.

Previously, the Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ) sent an official dispatch to health departments, informing that the above product sample did not meet the quality requirements for the quantitative index of esomeprazole (17.27% of the content stated on the label).
Drug samples were collected by the Hanoi Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing at retail pharmacies and tested for quality control.
Hanoi Department of Health requests medical facilities and related establishments not to trade, distribute, or use the above drugs. At the same time, they must check at the establishments. If they detect drugs with the above information, they must promptly notify the Department of Health for handling; the health departments of districts, towns, and cities must notify the establishments in the area not to trade, distribute, or use them.
According to information from the treatment facility, Nexium is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid.
