Hanoi is searching for the source of counterfeit Nexium® 40mg.

Hanoi Department of Health requests medical facilities and drug businesses in the area to track down the source of fake Nexium® 40mg drug lot number 23H420 with no registration number.

Authorities are investigating counterfeit drugs that contain only 17.2% of the active ingredient.

The Hanoi Department of Health has recently issued a document to medical facilities, pharmaceutical businesses in the area, and health departments of districts, counties, and towns regarding the inspection, handling, and tracing of the origin of counterfeit Nexium® 40mg tablets.

The product sample has the following information on its label: Nexium® 40mg Enterik kapli pellet tablet (esomeprazole), batch number 23H420, expiry date 09.2027. The sample lacks information on the marketing authorization number (GDKLH), import license number (GPNK); and information on the manufacturer and importer.

Previously, the Drug Administration Department ( Ministry of Health ) sent a document to provincial health departments, informing them that the product sample did not meet quality requirements regarding the quantitative indicator of esomeprazole (17.27% of the content stated on the label).

The drug samples were collected by the Hanoi Center for Testing Drugs, Cosmetics, and Food at retail pharmacies for quality control testing.

The Hanoi Department of Health requires all medical facilities and related establishments not to trade, distribute, or use the aforementioned drugs. They are also instructed to review their facilities and, if found with the aforementioned information, to promptly notify the Department of Health for appropriate action. District and town health departments are to inform healthcare facilities in their areas not to trade, distribute, or use these drugs.

According to information from the treatment facility, Nexium is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions related to excessive stomach acid.
