Ha Tinh focuses on vaccinating livestock and poultry in the second phase of 2023

Localities across Ha Tinh province are "urgently" deploying the second vaccination campaign in 2023 for livestock and poultry; striving to complete before October 30 to ensure disease prevention and control.

As one of the first localities in the province to implement the second phase of vaccination for livestock and poultry, in recent days, Cam Quan commune (Cam Xuyen) has mobilized veterinary staff to directly visit each household to carry out vaccination work. After 3 days of launching, the whole commune has injected more than 800 doses of vaccine for buffalo, cows and pigs (reaching a rate of more than 80% of the total herd).

Ms. Phan Thi Chinh - a veterinary officer of Cam Quan commune said: "Vaccination for livestock and poultry at this time is extremely important because the animals have run out of immunity. The erratic weather of the changing seasons makes it easy for dangerous diseases to arise such as lumpy skin disease in buffaloes and cows, foot and mouth disease, avian influenza... Thanks to good propaganda work and mobilizing the entire political system to participate, this vaccination campaign has achieved the set progress with a high rate."

In addition to Cam Quan commune, other localities in Cam Xuyen district are also focusing on vaccination of livestock and poultry. Up to now, Cam Xuyen district has been allocated 3,500 doses of cattle erysipelas vaccine; 4,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine; 20,000 doses of avian influenza vaccine; 2,500 doses of swine erysipelas vaccine and 2,500 doses of African swine fever vaccine. Cam Xuyen strives to complete the second phase of vaccination of livestock and poultry by October 6, 2023.

Lam Trung Thuy Commune (Duc Tho) strives to complete the second vaccination of livestock and poultry by September 24.

Duc Tho district has also been provided with disease prevention medicine for livestock and poultry in this second phase. Based on the total number of herds checked from the grassroots level, Duc Tho has been allocated by the specialized sector 3,075 doses of cattle erysipelas vaccine, 2,725 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine, 10,000 doses of avian influenza vaccine, 1,325 doses of swine erysipelas vaccine and 1,325 doses of African swine fever vaccine.

Mr. Phan Dang Duc - Vice Chairman of Lam Trung Thuy Commune People's Committee (Duc Tho) said: "Recently, the locality has stepped up propaganda to livestock households to seriously implement disease prevention work for livestock. Currently, the commune is mobilizing human resources, implementing centralized vaccination and vaccination at each livestock household according to regulations. This time, the whole commune will vaccinate 582 buffaloes and cows against septicemia and foot-and-mouth disease; vaccinate 300 pigs against septicemia and swine fever and vaccinate over 500 chickens in 15 villages against avian influenza. The locality strives to complete the assigned target by September 24."

According to information from the Department of Animal Health, from the beginning of 2023 until now, dangerous infectious diseases have occurred nationwide such as: avian influenza, African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, anthrax... The risk of dangerous animal diseases continuing to occur on a large scale is very high. Moreover, it is currently the transitional season, sudden changes in weather reduce the resistance of livestock and poultry and create favorable conditions for pathogens to develop and spread. Therefore, accelerating the vaccination progress is a solution to increase the resistance of livestock.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam - Deputy Head of the Veterinary Management Department (Ha Tinh Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department) said: “The second vaccination period is from September 1 to October 30. Currently, Cam Xuyen and Duc Tho districts have received enough vaccines and are focusing on vaccinating livestock and poultry according to the instructions of the professional sector. The remaining localities are completing the review and statistics of the total herd for small-scale livestock farming and farm farming; reviewing vaccination for subjects that have not been vaccinated in the first phase and the number of new vaccines arising in the second phase. On that basis, the professional sector will allocate vaccines to localities to ensure vaccination of livestock and poultry according to plan and achieve the highest efficiency”.

Ha Tinh strives to complete the second phase of livestock and poultry vaccination before October 30.

In order for the second phase of vaccination for livestock and poultry in 2023 to be implemented promptly, meeting the planned targets, contributing to proactive disease prevention, the Ha Tinh Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine directed specialized departments to closely follow the vaccination progress, urge localities to take advantage of time, speed up progress; arrange specialized staff to directly direct and supervise the organization and implementation at the commune level and villages and hamlets.

From there, promptly guide and supplement related contents on expertise, profession, and vaccination techniques; closely monitor the epidemic situation in localities to make adjustments and implement vaccination work to ensure regulations.
