V-League is truly a remedy to “heal” the national team. In addition to helping the players improve their performance before the AFF Cup 2024, the national championship can also help some players return from injury and find themselves again.
Notably, this list includes center-back Bui Hoang Viet Anh and striker Nguyen Van Toan. Bui Hoang Viet Anh is currently the number one center-back in domestic football, excelling in both defensive and attacking support.
Bui Hoang Viet Anh (right) is one of the best central defenders in Vietnamese football today.
During the Vietnamese national team's training camp in September for friendly matches against Russia and Thailand, Viet Anh suffered an injury and had to withdraw at the last minute. In the near future, the central defender may return, and the team's defense under coach Kim Sang-sik will have an additional option to counter aerial balls (Viet Anh is 1.85m tall), another player capable of challenging tall opposing strikers, and an extra attacking threat in set-piece situations when Viet Anh joins the attack.
Similar to Viet Anh is the case of striker Nguyen Van Toan. The star player currently playing for Nam Dinh team also suffered an injury and withdrew from the national team at the last minute, during the training session in September. Van Toan has returned to play for the team from Thanh Nam, in the match where Nam Dinh played away against Ha Tinh club in round 1 of V-League. This player did not make a strong impression in the above match, but it is likely that Van Toan will soon regain his form and play better in the coming time.
Van Toan (white shirt) is in good form but unfortunately missed the Vietnam national team due to injury.
Van Toan's high speed and ability to create breakthroughs are factors that the Vietnamese team really needs, especially in the situation where we play counter-attacks against some opponents that are rated higher. These counter-attacks will help reduce pressure on the home team's defense, at the same time opening up new opportunities for the team.
Therefore, when Van Toan returns for the national team training camp in October, coach Kim Sang-sik may use a different attacking option for the Vietnamese national team against India (October 9) and Lebanon (October 15).
Among the young players who served with the Vietnam U22 team in the friendly tournament in China, there is a possibility that some will be called up to the senior national team in the near future. Football expert Doan Minh Xuong predicts: "It is possible that Dinh Bac, Thai Son, and Khuat Van Khang will be added to the squad."
Among them, Dinh Bac just made his debut for his new team, Hanoi Police (CAHN). He came on in the 60th minute, replacing Phan Van Duc. Like Van Toan, Dinh Bac didn't make a huge impression in the opening round of the V-League, but hopefully, after a few more rounds in the national championship, his form will improve.
Coach Kim Sang-sik (in black) needs many quality options to prepare for the matches in October and the AFF Cup at the end of the year.
With more people and more strength, the Vietnamese team needs contributions from many different factors, with diverse playing styles. The upcoming rounds of the V-League are expected to gradually help coach Kim Sang-sik solve difficult problems related to the team.
