(NADS) - During the days when people in the North suffered heavy losses due to natural disasters, the words "COMPATRIOTS" and "VIETNAM" were mentioned most often. And the image of Party and Government leaders going to the flood-stricken and disaster-ravaged areas to encourage the people and direct local efforts to overcome the consequences clearly demonstrates this.
How moving are the images of soldiers and police officers braving the storms and floods to rescue people, and the brave sacrifices of some soldiers. The tradition of compassion and selflessness, the noble acts of charity in many ways... There's a professor who donated billions of dong from his savings, many preschool and elementary school students who "slaughtered their piggy banks" to save money from their breakfast allowances, and people from all walks of life supporting those affected by natural disasters... the list goes on and on.
People in Central Vietnam, the epicenter of the storms and floods, and people in the South are engaging in numerous charitable activities, providing both financial and material support to the people of the Northern provinces, both before and after the Fatherland Front at all levels launched its fundraising campaign. The greater the difficulties, hardships, losses, and suffering, the stronger the spirit of solidarity within the community and among the Vietnamese people becomes. "Natural disasters and invaders," our ancestors often said. We must confront natural disasters before fighting invaders. We have defeated many invaders thanks to the spirit of Vietnamese solidarity. Now, Vietnam is even more united in confronting natural disasters and floods. This is clearly demonstrated through spontaneous charitable activities and fundraising campaigns launched by the Fatherland Front at all levels. And immediately, people nationwide responded by reaching out to the disaster-stricken areas.
Right now, relief organizations need a well-thought-out plan and scientific allocation of resources to help people in disaster-stricken areas overcome hunger, disease, and prevent damage and losses – this is the immediate priority. But we also need to focus on distributing resources immediately after the storm subsides, floods recede, and water levels drop to the warning level, ensuring people don't go hungry, maintaining environmental hygiene, preventing disease outbreaks, and quickly stabilizing their lives. At the same time, people in disaster-stricken areas should leverage their internal resources to engage in vegetable and crop production and livestock farming for long-term livelihoods, alongside the attentive management of Party committees, government, and the Fatherland Front at all levels, with the spirit of prioritizing the well-being of the people. Let the meaning of "fellow countrymen" be amplified more than ever before.
