Airlines cancel a series of flights due to the impact of storm No. 3

Many flights were affected by storm number 3.

Due to the impact of Typhoon Wipha (Typhoon No. 3) in the Hong Kong area (China), Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco) will adjust the operation plan of some flights on July 21 to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Specifically, Vietnam Airlines will cancel flights VN1188, VN1171, VN7188, VN7189, VN7056, VN7057 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong; VN1856, VN1857 between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao.

On July 21, Pacific Airlines will adjust the departure time of flights BL6440 and BL6441 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong to take off and land at Cat Bi airport before 12 noon. The airline will also cancel flights BL6520 and BL6521 on this route during the day.

For July 22, Vietnam Airlines Group flights operating at Cat Bi airport will depart after 12:00.

In addition, many domestic and international flights on July 21-22 of Vietnam Airlines Group will be affected by storm Wipha.

“Vietnam Airlines Group regrets having to change the operating schedule due to unforeseen weather conditions and hopes to receive sympathy from passengers. Flight times may continue to be adjusted according to the development of the storm. Updated information will be announced by the airline via media and contact information in the passenger's booking records,” said a representative of the airline.

In addition, Vietnam Airlines recommends that passengers fasten their seat belts throughout the flight, especially in complex weather conditions. Actively fastening seat belts, even when the signal light is off, is an important measure to help minimize risks when the plane encounters air turbulence.

According to the Aviation Meteorological Center (Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation - VATM), storm number 3 (storm WIPHA) has just been forecast to continue moving rapidly towards the mainland with strong winds of level 11, gusting to level 14.

From the night of July 20 and the morning of July 21, the storm's circulation affected the eastern part of sub-zones 1, 2, and 3 of the Hanoi Flight Information Region (Hanoi FIR), causing convective clouds, causing showers, thunderstorms, and dangerous weather phenomena.

From 9pm to 12am on July 21, the storm center is likely to touch FIR zone 2 of Hanoi, about 250km from Noi Bai airport.

During July 21-22, Noi Bai Airport will have moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, visibility reduced to 1.3km, warning of widespread heavy rain. From July 21-23, the Northeast, Northern Delta, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An will have heavy to very heavy rain. Common rainfall is 200-350mm, some places over 600mm, warning of risk of heavy rain >150mm/3 hours.
