Therefore, in a recent announcement, the European Commission (EC) affirmed that social media platforms TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat will have to explain how they operate and the algorithms that recommend videos on their platforms, such as autoplay and infinite scrolling, as well as the protective measures they must implement to prevent the spread of harmful content.

TikTok's operations will be investigated by the EU.
TikTok's operations will be investigated by the EU.

Accordingly, all three entities must provide the documents by November 15th, and failure to provide information or providing false information will result in penalties under EU law.

The investigation will be conducted under the European Union's Digital Services Act. The Act, adopted in 2022, aims to address illegal content, advertising, and misinformation. This investigation is only the first step, and the European Commission will formally proceed with legal action after analyzing the responses.
