From early morning on February 6th (the 9th day of the Lunar New Year), thousands of tourists flocked to the Am Tien National Historical Site in Nua town, Trieu Son district, to worship, admire the scenery, and pray for peace.
Every year, on the 9th day of the first lunar month, the local community solemnly organizes the opening ceremony of the Nua Temple - Am Tien festival and the "opening of the gates of heaven" on the summit of Nua Mountain. The "opening of the gates of heaven" is the highest point of the mountain peak, a sacred location. People make pilgrimages here to pray for good fortune and hope for a peaceful and healthy new year.
At the sacred site – the "gateway to heaven" – a large crowd of locals and tourists gathered to perform rituals, praying for a peaceful and prosperous year.
People walk around the sacred site, rubbing money on the stone sphere to pray for good luck, health, and peace in the new year.
According to tradition, to pray for a year of good luck, health, and happiness, locals and tourists who come here will meditate by walking around the sacred spot (typically men walk 7 laps, women walk 9 laps).
Ms. Minh Hien, residing in Thanh Hoa City, said: "On the day the 'gates of heaven' opened, I came to Am Tien to offer incense and pray for a peaceful new year, smooth work, and good fortune. This year, the weather was only slightly rainy, but the number of people flocking to Am Tien was still very large. Thanks to the police directing traffic and arranging parking spaces, there was no traffic congestion like in previous years."
Am Tien is a famous scenic spot associated with the Ba Trieu rebellion against the Wu army in 248. Located about 30km west of Thanh Hoa city center, the Nua Temple - Am Tien National Historical and Cultural Relic Complex (Nua town, Trieu Son district) includes "Nua Mountain - Nua Temple - Am Tien", planned with a total area of 100 hectares. Nua Mountain Peak is the highest mountain in the region with an altitude of 538m above sea level. Nua Temple - Am Tien is located on the mountaintop. According to feng shui practitioners, the Am Tien acupoint is the point where earth and sky converge (or the gateway to heaven), where all the spiritual energy of heaven and earth gathers. It is considered a place where the energies of heaven and earth intertwine, and is one of the most important "acupoints" in Vietnam. |
