The new principal of VinUni University is a 7x generation Singaporean professor

VinUni University has a new principal, a professor from the 7x generation, who is leading the electrical and electronic field of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore to become the world's leading university.

According to the announcement of VinUni University, from September 3, the school has a new principal, Professor Tan Yap-Peng. Professor Tan replaces his predecessor, Professor, Doctor David Bangsberg, who has just finished a successful 2-year term at VinUni.

Professor Tan Yap-Peng has 26 years of experience at Nanyang Technological University, including a brief stint as acting dean of the College of Engineering (COE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

From 2018 to March 2024, he was the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at COE. On the Linkedin page, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at COE recognized Professor Tan as the one who contributed to developing the strengths of COE, raising the position of COE globally, helping COE become the best school in Asia and the world's leading school in the field of electrical and electronics.

Professor Tan Yap-Peng is a member of the 7x generation of scientists , graduating with a bachelor's degree in science in 1993 from National Taiwan University. He then studied for a master's degree and a doctorate at Princeton University, USA.

Before joining Nanyang Technological University, he had many years of experience in the US, at leading technology and engineering corporations and research centers in the world such as IBM Thomas J. Watson, Intel Corporation, Sharp Laboratory... His research interests are image and video processing, content-based multimedia analysis, computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, human behavior analysis and data analysis.

According to the Board of Directors of VinUni University, the next phase of VinUni is to develop strongly and make a breakthrough to reach the level of the top 100 universities in the world. Therefore, the university needs a president who is energetic, dynamic, and has the ability to connect, to gather many excellent scientists to work together in a collective. The university expects new leaders such as Vice President Ling San, President Tan Yap-peng... together with the current leaders of VinUni to complete this mission.

Thus, VinUni University now has its third president. The first president is Professor Rohit Verma, a world-leading expert in business administration, from Cornell University, USA. The second president is Professor David Bangsberg, a world-leading scientist in preventive medicine, also from the USA.
