According to an announcement from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the important training sessions of the Vietnamese national team on November 18th and 19th will be held behind closed doors. This is an understandable decision by Coach Troussier, as this is the time for the coaching staff to prepare and refine key tactics for the players.

Last night, at 1:40 AM on November 18th, the Vietnamese national team arrived at Noi Bai Airport. The players rested before beginning their training session in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Iraqi national team flew directly from Basra to Hanoi on the night of November 17th and arrived in Vietnam around noon on November 17th.

The Vietnamese national team is about to face Iraq – the strongest opponent in the group. Therefore, coach Troussier must make tactical adjustments to suit the nature of the match. In the clash with the Philippines – considered the weakest team in the group – the Vietnamese team showed many positive signs with a convincing victory.

However, it will be difficult for the Vietnamese team to win or earn points if they play against Iraq in the same way they did against the Philippines. Fans are waiting for coach Troussier to bring more new things after the thorough preparation through many friendly matches against strong opponents.

In terms of personnel, the Vietnamese team has no significant injuries. Nguyen Van Toan had to leave the field on a stretcher after a collision with Jefferson Tabinas in the 80th minute. However, the Nam Dinh FC player only suffered a minor injury to his ribs, and X-rays showed he had no serious injury. Van Toan is fit enough to start against Iraq if coach Troussier trusts him.

The valuable three points against the Philippines helped ease much of the pressure on the Vietnamese team. In fact, if they perform well against their Southeast Asian opponents, the chances of advancing are very high for Coach Troussier's team. Looking ahead, he and his players will focus on securing points against Iraq to build momentum for the next four matches in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region.
