The 14th Miss Supranational pageant is scheduled to take place this July. Vietnam's representative this year, runner-up Dang Thanh Ngan, is also busily preparing to travel for the competition.

Former Miss Supranational Anntonia Porsild has requested to relinquish her crown in order to register for another beauty pageant.

However, just before the event, the Miss Supranational Organizing Committee announced a series of new regulations aimed at tightening control over the situation where a single winner holds multiple titles.

BTC stated that the new Miss and runner-up will sign a one-year contract, renewable for another two years after their term, for a total of three years. The winner is not allowed to participate in any other national or international beauty pageants. Violation will result in a compensation payment of $100,000 USD (over 2.3 billion VND) to the Miss Supranational organization.

This new regulation will come into effect this year and will be included in the contracts of the Miss Supranational winners and runners-up after their coronation.

This rule was reportedly issued after Miss Supranational 2019 Anntonia Porsild decided to relinquish her title to participate in Miss Universe Thailand 2023.

Miss Supranational is one of the six major beauty pageants in the world , held annually and run by the World Beauty Association (WBA), headquartered in Panama.

Vietnam's highest achievement in this competition is Kim Duyên's second runner-up title in the 2022 season.

Representing Vietnam at the Miss Supranational 2023 pageant in Poland is Dang Thanh Ngan, the second runner-up of Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017. Born in 1999 in Soc Trang , she is 1.75 m tall and weighs 55 kg.

She studied at Can Tho University, but her family later moved to Ho Chi Minh City. Due to unfavorable circumstances, she had to put her studies on hold. Dang Thanh Ngan participated in a professional stage acting training course at Hong Van Theater for 3 years. She has appeared in films such as "Silk" and the sitcom "Miss Detective".

During her initial activities at Miss Supranational 2023, Thanh Ngan faced mixed opinions due to her poor English skills.

Specifically, in the SupraChat segment, Dang Thanh Ngan and the other girls interacted and answered questions posed by the MC.

In the introduction, the beauty from Soc Trang answered in English. She stated that she is a professional model and actress in Vietnam. Dang Thanh Ngan said she was influenced by the characteristics of women from the Mekong Delta, such as generosity and diligence.

However, for the next two questions, the Vietnamese beauty queen chose to answer in Vietnamese.

Besides her English pronunciation, the beauty queen from Soc Trang was criticized for her stiff, unnatural introduction, forced smile, and shaky voice.

Dang Thanh Ngan will be heading to Poland to participate in Miss Supranational 2023 on June 26th. She has faced mixed opinions due to her less-than-perfect English skills.

In response to mixed public reactions, Dang Thanh Ngan stated that she has new challenges to overcome. There are experiences where she hasn't necessarily done well, but she is still improving herself every day.

"Through her journey at Miss Supranational 2023, Ngan knows she still has shortcomings that need improvement, not just 10, but 100, 1000 times, in order to be qualified and strong enough to represent Vietnam in this competition."
