Specifically, the two gold medals at the 2024 International Informatics Olympiad were awarded to Pham Cong Minh, a 12th-grade student, and Hoang Xuan Bach, an 11th-grade student, both from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , Faculty of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The Vietnamese team, consisting of four students (from right to left): Hoang Xuan Bach, Pham Cong Minh, Pham Ngoc Trung, and Nguyen Huu Tuan, won two gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal at the International Informatics Olympiad.
The silver medal went to Nguyen Huu Tuan, a 10th-grade student from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University , Hanoi .
Pham Ngoc Trung, a 12th-grade student from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, won a bronze medal.
The 36th International Olympiad in Informatics was held in person from September 1-6 in Alexandria, Egypt. IOI 2024 saw the participation of 353 contestants from 91 countries and territories (in addition to Russia, Belarus, and Australia competing under the Olympic flag), and 9 contestants competing online from Israel, Iran, and Germany.
With 100% of its contestants winning medals, the Vietnamese national IOI team is among the top four countries and territories in the overall medal standings, after the United States, Japan, and Poland (according to the results published on the IOI 2024 Organizing Committee website; the Russian and Israeli IOI teams are not ranked).
In 2023, the Vietnamese IOI team was among the top 9 countries in the overall medal standings with 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
According to the IOI 2024 Council regulations, the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) consists of two official competition days. On each day, contestants complete a 5-hour computer programming test and solve three problems of varying content. Results are automatically graded online, and score sheets are published online throughout the two competition days.
The Ministry of Education and Training stated that this year's exam was highly challenging, requiring candidates to apply their knowledge flexibly and demonstrate great creativity. With the rapid development of the digital age, countries are increasingly investing in their teams, and the competition among nations is intensifying in this competition.
The closing ceremony and awards presentation for the 2024 International Informatics Olympiad will take place tonight, September 6th.
