Opening the gold medal spree in athletics on December 11th, athlete Ho Trong Manh Hung (21 years old) excellently won the gold medal in the men's triple jump. With a performance of 16.33 meters, after 6 jumps, the athlete achieved the best time to become the champion in Thailand this year. The last time Vietnamese athletics won a gold medal in the men's triple jump was at the 2013 SEA Games.
Following closely behind, Bui Thi Ngan and Nguyen Khanh Linh dominated their competitors from the very first minutes in the women's 1,500m race. Ultimately, Bui Thi Ngan brilliantly won the race with a total time of 4 minutes 27.35 seconds. Nguyen Khanh Linh finished second in the women's 1,500m.
The 1,500m distance is Nguyen Thi Oanh's forte, which she has dominated in recent SEA Games, but the runner from Bac Giang unexpectedly withdrew from the event at the last minute.
In the men's 1,500m athletics event, Luong Duc Phuoc won a bronze medal, finishing behind athletes from Thailand and the Philippines. This is not the best achievement of the young runner.
