Hoi An ancient town was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 1999 based on two criteria: "Being an outstanding physical manifestation of the fusion of cultures through the ages in an international commercial port" and "Being a typical example of a perfectly preserved traditional Asian port".
