World oil prices recover on interest rate cut expectations and supply concerns
On the morning of December 8, world oil prices opened the first session of the week with a slight upward trend.
WTI crude oil for immediate delivery sold at 60.26 USD/barrel, up 0.18 USD/barrel (equivalent to 0.31%).
Light sweet Brent crude oil traded at $63.90/barrel, up $0.16/barrel (or 0.25%).
Last week, oil prices recorded 4 sessions of increase and 1 session of decrease. Overall, Brent oil prices increased by about 1%, WTI oil increased by about 3%, marking the second consecutive week of increase for both types of oil.

Current oil prices are supported by a number of factors including geopolitical tensions and production policies.
Ukraine's drone attacks, the US warning to close Venezuela's airspace, and OPEC's decision to keep crude oil production unchanged through December 2026 are the main reasons.
The market is feeling uneasy about the possibility of a drop in Russian crude supplies, said John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital LLC. Traders are closely watching the Russia-Ukraine peace deal .
Phil Flynn, Senior Analyst at Price Futures Group, said the Ukraine attacks combined with OPEC's production commitment pushed up oil prices.
Oil prices were also supported by investors expecting the US Federal Reserve to cut interest rates next week, amid geopolitical uncertainties that could limit supplies from Russia and Venezuela. Phil Flynn said the possibility of a Fed rate cut outweighed all other factors and was the driving force behind crude oil's rise.
Dennis Kissler, senior vice president of trading at BOK Financial, said the market is adjusting due to geopolitical issues, although global supplies remain quite abundant.
