On July 24th, Dr. Nguyen Phan Tu Dung, General Director of a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, stated that his hospital had recently treated numerous cases of necrosis in the buttocks, thighs, and chin due to injections of fillers of unknown origin.

The first case involved a 29-year-old female patient, NTH, a Singaporean national, who paid a heavy price with deformities in her buttocks and thighs.
According to her medical history, in 2019 she had approximately 1,000ml of filler injected at an unlicensed spa, and then underwent fat grafting to augment her buttocks in 2021. However, after some time, her buttocks and thighs became uneven and lumpy, with loose muscle tissue, causing her to lose confidence in daily life and making walking difficult.

Through clinical examination, MRI and ultrasound imaging, Dr. Nguyen Phan Tu Dung assessed that the filler had penetrated deep into the muscle tissue, causing widespread necrosis from the buttocks to the thighs, but the patient was unaware of it. The delayed treatment resulted in an extremely serious abscess condition.
The cause was determined to be due to incorrect filler injection technique and excessive injection, causing the filler to spread deep into the tissue, leading to infection and necrosis.
The patient was scheduled for urgent filler removal surgery, with AI ultrasound technology applied throughout the procedure. After the surgery, nearly 3,000ml of necrotic fluid mixture containing filler, necrotic tissue, and blood was removed from the patient's body.
Currently, the patient continues to receive VAC negative pressure suction and intensive care. After 6 months to 1 year of treatment, the patient may undergo fat grafting to fill out the buttocks.

Doctors were horrified when a patient's chin "glowed" in the night.
That same evening that Ms. H. was admitted to the hospital, Dr. Tu Dung received another emergency case related to filler complications. It was a 25-year-old Vietnamese man living in Hong Kong (China), who was admitted with severe swelling and pain in his chin, significantly affecting his ability to eat and carry out daily activities.
Remarkably, his chin was so red it looked like it was "glowing," startling even the doctor. Mr. L. said he had previously had filler injections multiple times to improve the shape of his chin. Dissatisfied with the results, he had the filler dissolved and then injected new filler into the chin area, causing severe damage to the tissue there.
After consulting ChatGPT and receiving information from the platform about cases of miraculous recovery from cosmetic surgery complications in Vietnam, the patient decided to fly from Hong Kong to seek help from a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, hoping to find a safe treatment option.

Upon examination, Vietnamese doctors diagnosed Mr. L. with necrotizing fasciitis due to a spreading abscess beneath his chin, a dangerous complication if not treated promptly. The medical team immediately activated an emergency surgery procedure that night.
Throughout the 3-hour surgery, the doctors thoroughly removed all remaining filler and treated any deep-seated inflammatory abscesses. The entire surgical procedure was performed through an incision inside the oral cavity, preserving aesthetics and preventing scarring.
Thanks to the application of modern technology and the seamless coordination between specialties, the surgery was successful, and the patient is now in a positive recovery phase.

Dr. Tu Dung advises that in the above cases, patients all received filler injections at unlicensed facilities, performed by individuals lacking medical qualifications, leading to injections into the wrong anatomical layer, causing severe complications that are difficult to treat later.
"People should not believe in cheap advertisements for at-home filler injections and those from unknown sources. If abnormal signs appear after injection, such as prolonged pain, swelling, redness, deformation, or loss of sensation, they should go to a specialized hospital for examination and timely treatment," the doctor shared.
