On the morning of July 3rd, within the framework of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival, the Da Nang City People's Committee, in collaboration with the Vietnam Film Promotion Association, organized a seminar entitled "French Cinema and its Relationship with Vietnamese Cinema".
The seminar attracted many film experts, especially leading experts from French cinema, who exchanged and discussed two main topics: "French cinema and its relationship with Vietnamese cinema" and "French-Vietnamese film exchange and cooperation: interdisciplinary and intercultural issues".
Many papers were presented at the conference, including: French cinema, Vietnamese cinema, perspectives from both sides; French cinema on Vietnamese themes - journeys back to memory; Art film production in the context of globalization: the French experience and suggestions for Vietnamese cinema; The influence of French "New Wave" cinema; Varan film style (films made in the direct cinema style) and the influence of French documentary cinema on Vietnamese documentary cinema...
Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that French cinema is very familiar to Vietnam. Many French films have been screened in Vietnam and have won the hearts of audiences.
"Therefore, the workshop is an opportunity to gain more experience and cooperate for mutual development. In the future, we hope that Vietnamese cinema will participate more in film festivals around the world , especially the Cannes Film Festival," Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong shared.
Discussing the "French New Wave and its influence on Vietnamese cinema," Associate Professor Hoang Cam Giang (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi ) stated that, for Vietnamese cinema, the "New Wave" had a stronger influence than the first generation of independent films.
These films are by directors who have received formal filmmaking training (in Vietnam or Europe) and who have had the opportunity to break through and access new ideas, trends, and movements from Europe in their careers – beyond the influence of Soviet (former) and Hollywood cinema.
