Explore to return
Some journeys are not just about exploration, but about returning home. With the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave" ecotourism tour, visitors will return to the memories of "a time of fire and glory," to the legendary stories of previous generations.
The artifacts and models in the Command Cave are not merely reconstructions, but also pieces of a vivid memory. Through the tour guide's stories, the arduous and fierce years of war come alive again. Every rock face, every nook and cranny seems to tell the story of the indomitable will and creativity of the Trường Sơn soldiers of the past.
Ms. Phan Thi Hai Khuyen, a tour guide at the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave" tourist site, shared that the soldiers, who were not architects and did not need any design blueprints, created a solid food and weapons storage facility deep within enemy territory to facilitate the supply of provisions to the Southern battlefield and ensure the reunification of the country.
“I am always moved and touched when I have the opportunity to explain to tourists about the landscapes and artifacts in the Command Cave, one of the largest warehouses of the 559th Command in Quang Binh (formerly). The historical values left by our ancestors are immense. When introducing these to tourists, with all my heart, I always want them to relive the most brutal period of the nation's war. In that time, our soldiers and civilians did not hesitate to shed their blood and sacrifice their lives, fighting bravely and indomitably,” Ms. Khuyen shared.
Ms. Le Thi Hong (a resident of Hamlet 4, Dong Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province) emotionally shared that upon setting foot on the Road 20 Quyet Thang, she was deeply moved by the sacred historical traces still deeply imprinted amidst the majestic Truong Son mountain range. The old trail, once battered by bombs and bullets, now appears lush and serene, like an endless epic of patriotism and the unwavering will of our forefathers.
“Upon entering the Command Cave, once the nerve center of the 559th Army Corps, I felt the breath of the past, the harshness and the steely spirit of the Trường Sơn soldiers. This visit was not only a journey back to history, but also an experience filled with pride and gratitude,” Ms. Hồng shared.

Visitors to this place all feel that the Command Cave is a space for dialogue between the past and the present. Today's visitors are not only here to admire, but also to embrace a heritage with pride, gratitude, and a responsibility to preserve and promote its historical values to pass on to future generations.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Cam, from Hamlet 4, Dong Trach Commune (Quang Tri Province), said: "Through visiting the artifacts, images, and evidence at the 'Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave,' I feel that this is not only a place that marks the glorious history of the nation, but also a vivid and practical lesson to educate the younger generation about patriotism and the indomitable spirit of our ancestors."
"Seeing the attentive eyes and serious listening of each visitor, especially the students, as they heard about the arduous years of struggle, I believe that this tourism product will leave a deep impression on each of us. The trip not only helped me, but also many young people, to feel more proud and conscious of preserving and promoting revolutionary traditions."
Contributing to the diversification of tourism products.
Located at Km12 on Highway 20 Quyet Thang, the Command Cave served as a "strategic logistics base" for the 559th Command during the resistance war against the American imperialists. This was where officers and soldiers of Supply Depot 14 received and transported thousands of tons of goods, weapons, and food supplies to support the Southern battlefield. Measuring 150m in length and 100m in width, the cave has seven large levels and was converted into a weapons and equipment storage facility, a testament to the unwavering will and ingenuity of our army and people.
These areas are designed with multiple interactive segments, ensuring a visual and immersive experience, such as: the exhibition area for construction tools used in opening the Road 20 Quyet Thang, the exhibition area for strategic logistical goods transported via Road 20, the exhibition area for various types of bomb casings, and the area inside the Command Cave.
With its vibrant exhibits and impressive virtual reality experience, the tour of the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave" allows visitors to travel back in time, reliving the heroic atmosphere of the Truong Son Mountains of yesteryear amidst the pristine mountain forests, where vast forests that were once scorched by bombs 50 years ago have now recovered and flourished.
Mr. Tran Xuan Hop, Deputy General Director of T20 Quyet Thang Company, said that after more than a month of operation, the "Legendary Truong Son Road - Command Cave" eco-tourism area has attracted more than 1,000 visitors. The tourism product was developed with the goal of further diversifying tourism types within the National Park, exploiting the potential and advantages of biodiversity and cave systems; while also promoting and spreading the historical value of the T20 Quyet Thang route.

Furthermore, the development of this tourism product also contributes to the conservation of forest ecosystems, natural landscapes, and cultural and historical values in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park; creating job opportunities and increasing income for local people through forest protection contracts and supplementary tourism services (accommodation, transportation, food, souvenirs).
Mr. Pham Hong Thai, Director of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board, affirmed that the tour is an opportunity for domestic and international tourists to experience and explore more deeply the values of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park World Natural Heritage Site.
At the same time, the tour also provides visitors with the opportunity to remember the contributions, achievements, anecdotes, and tragic journeys that the soldiers and volunteer youth experienced on the Route 20 Victory Road.
“This is a unique tourism product (cultural and historical tourism) alongside existing ecotourism types, designed to attract a large number of tourists in the future. The product contributes to affirming the brand and position of Quang Tri tourism on the world tourism map, creating a ripple effect to attract tourists and widely promote Phong Nha-Ke Bang,” Mr. Pham Hong Thai emphasized.
