DNVN - Huawei announced its 5.5G development direction with two strategies: "Network for AI" and "AI for Networks," aiming to explore new business values.
At the GSMA's 5.5G Industry Conference, held as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2024, Huawei participated in discussions with numerous carriers, equipment suppliers, research institutions, and industry leaders to share successes in network development and application during the transition from 5G to 5.5G. Additionally, the parties discussed development strategies and effective business deployment methods for 5.5G.
At the MWC Shanghai 2024 exhibition, David Wang, CEO and Chairman of Huawei's ICT Infrastructure Executive Board, delivered a speech on the topic "Accelerating 5.5G Network Development and Shaping the Mobile AI Era".
He clarified the 5.5G development direction with two strategies, "Network for AI" and "AI for Networks," aimed at exploring new business values. The "Network for AI" strategy uses networks to drive AI development, laying a solid foundation for the mobile AI era. The "AI for Networks" strategy uses AI to empower and strongly promote network development, increasing network productivity in all aspects.
David Wang emphasized: “5.5G is a cornerstone of the mobile AI era. Therefore, we hope to continue collaborating with industry partners to seize the immense opportunities from the mobile AI era and shape a smart world .”
At the conference, David Li, President of 5G Business, spoke.
Leading global carriers such as China Unicom Beijing, China Mobile Yunnan, and the UAE have also shared their experiences in developing and marketing 5G and 5.5G networks. Specifically, 5.5G offers the key to unlocking business opportunities from mobile applications that require higher network demands and provide a more differentiated user experience.
High-quality 5G networks are the foundation for 5.5G network deployment; therefore, enhancing 5G networks in residential areas, high-speed rail, urban and rural areas can support the multi-functional setup of 5.5G networks. Additionally, intelligent end-to-end operational processes enable network operators to gain comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of network issues, self-resolve errors, maximize network efficiency, and improve user experience.
At the conference, Huawei officially announced its vision for developing technologies in the industry, upgrading from 5G to 5.5G – aiming for greener, more connected mobile networks and enhanced experiences through long-term innovation in extremely large antenna array (ELAA) technology, mobile services that deliver differentiated experiences, green solutions for all time scenarios, and AI-empowered networks.
AI is rapidly being applied to computers, mobile phones, wearable devices, and in-vehicle computing systems, creating a massive connected ecosystem with rich content and diverse user traffic patterns. These applications have placed higher demands on network capabilities, creating opportunities for new services, superior network quality, and improved operational and maintenance (O&M) capabilities. To seize these new opportunities, Huawei calls for collaboration and exchange across the entire industry to promote shared prosperity and the development of 5.5G networks.
