Hue: Floods on rivers exceed alert level 3, focusing on overcoming landslides at Kim Quy pass

At 7:00 a.m. on November 3, the water level on the Huong River and the Bo River in Hue City both exceeded alert level 3.

Specifically, the water level on the Huong River at Kim Long is 3.75m, 0.25m above alert level 3; the water level on the Bo River at Phu Oc is 4.7m, 0.20m above alert level 3. According to the Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 3 hours, there has been moderate to heavy rain in the city; especially in the communes from A Luoi 1 to A Luoi 5, Long Quang, Nam Dong, Khe Tre, Loc An, Phu Loc, there has been very heavy rain and especially heavy rain.

In the next 3 hours, the whole city of Hue will have heavy rain, very heavy rain; total rainfall is generally from 20 - 40mm, in some places over 70mm. Particularly in communes from A Luoi 1 to A Luoi 5, Long Quang, Nam Dong, Khe Tre, Loc An, Phu Loc and Chan May - Lang Co, the rainfall is generally from 50 - 100mm, in some places over 150mm.

Heavy rains caused floods on the Huong and Bo rivers to continue to rise rapidly, causing widespread and prolonged flooding in downstream rivers, low-lying areas, urban areas, flash floods and landslides on slopes in mountainous areas, negatively affecting construction works, waterway traffic, aquaculture, agriculture, cultural, economic , social, environmental and community health activities.

Heavy rain caused a landslide on National Highway 49 through Kim Quy Pass between Binh Dien and A Luoi 5 communes in the early morning of November 3. This is a vital traffic route connecting the center with the western mountainous region of Hue city.

Mr. Tran Quang Hiet, Deputy General Director of Thua Thien Hue Road Construction and Management Joint Stock Company, said that the forces are currently focusing on repairing the road, in order to soon reopen the route in the morning of the same day. Previously, there was also a landslide on this route but it has been fixed.

This flood occurred while Hue city had not yet overcome the consequences of two particularly large floods in the last days of October.
