On August 23, the project “Hue - Plastic-reducing City in Central Vietnam” (funded by WWF-Norway through WWF-Vietnam) in collaboration with the Hue City Department of Tourism , the People's Committees of Thuan An Ward and Phu Vinh Commune launched three waiting stations and free drinking water dispensers at Phu Thuan, Phu Dien and Vinh Thanh beaches.
These are coastal areas that attract a large number of people and tourists to swim, picnic and have fun, especially in the summer and on major holidays of the year.
Adding free water stations not only helps residents and visitors easily access clean, safe drinking water, but also contributes to significantly reducing the amount of single-use plastic bottles.
The water stations are designed to be modern, easy to use and friendly to the seascape; integrated with canopies (waiting houses), creating convenient resting places for visitors.
Water purifiers at the stations apply IMPACT filtration technology with dual pharmaceutical filters and high-grade activated carbon to remove impurities, bacteria, and heavy metals while retaining natural minerals, providing a safe water source for health.
Residents and visitors only need to bring their own water bottles or flasks to refill at the stations or drink water directly from the tap completely free of charge.
Ms. Hoang Ngoc Tuong Van, Project Manager of “ Hue - Plastic-reducing urban area in Central Vietnam” said that this is a simple, low-cost intervention but has a long-term positive impact on consumer behavior and awareness of plastic reduction, thereby contributing to the formation of a greener and more civilized lifestyle in the community.
The implementation of this system of shelters and free water stations along the coast requires close coordination between local authorities, beach management boards, residential communities and relevant parties in the installation, operation and maintenance. This ensures that the stations operate effectively, long-term and are used for the right purposes.
Mr. Le Dinh Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuan An Ward, said that the waiting room and free drinking water dispenser at Phu Thuan beach are not only infrastructure projects that practically serve the needs of residents and tourists, but also a step forward for innovation in thinking and building people's awareness of reducing the use of disposable plastic products.
People need to proactively protect the bus stop station to be able to use this asset effectively in the long term, while raising awareness of reducing plastic in the community. The locality will coordinate with all parties to continue to replicate this model in other areas of Thuan An ward in the near future.
From 2022 to present, the project "Hue - Plastic-reducing city in Central Vietnam" has installed 12 waiting stations and free water dispensers at 11 tourist destinations in Hue city.
The project aims to build environmental protection habits in the daily lives of residents and tourists, helping to reduce the burden of plastic waste on the natural environment, especially in sensitive areas of lagoons and coastal areas./.
