Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir announced on December 7 that the "yellow line" demarcation line is now the "new border" inside the Gaza Strip.
The "yellow line" marks the area where Israeli troops have not withdrawn from Palestinian territory, as part of a ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10.
Speaking during a visit to Beit Hanoun and Jabaliya in the Gaza Strip, where he met with division commanders, Zamir affirmed that the "yellow line" is Israel's new border, serving as the IDF's forward defense line and operational line.
General Zamir affirmed that the IDF now has "operational control over large areas of the Gaza Strip," and declared that Israeli forces "will remain" in these areas.
He also affirmed that the Israeli army "will not allow Hamas to re-establish itself" and is preparing for "surprise attack scenarios" - the foundation of the IDF's upcoming multi-year plan.
According to General Zamir, the IDF's mission will not be complete until the body of the last hostage in the Gaza Strip, Ran Gvili, is returned.
So far, Hamas has released all 20 hostages alive and returned the bodies of 27 deceased hostages, except Gvili.
Since October, the Israeli army has shot and killed dozens of Palestinians, accusing them of crossing the "yellow line."
According to figures from Gaza health authorities, more than 370 people have been killed by Israeli fire since October 11, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out in October 2023 to 70,360.
