Rectifying constructions encroaching on sidewalks and blocking walkways in Ho Chi Minh City

On the afternoon of December 8, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction Vo Khanh Hung said that the city is inspecting and handling the situation of advertising and propaganda billboards, BTS multi-purpose information stations, electrical cabinets, water meter cabinets, etc. that are installed incorrectly, causing insecurity and affecting urban aesthetics.

According to the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City, recently, in the city, there have been many construction works installed without the approval of the road management agency.

Many locations of equipment occupy sidewalks, narrow walkways, obstruct people with disabilities, obscure visibility at intersections and curves, and cause traffic insecurity.

The Department requires traffic infrastructure management units to review all works installed on sidewalks and within the scope of traffic infrastructure.

Projects that obstruct pedestrian walkways, are unsafe, or do not have construction permits must be strictly handled and dismantled immediately, with priority given to the city center area.

The Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center was assigned to re-examine all contracts related to propaganda and advertising billboards.

The Center must require businesses to properly implement the signed content and approval document of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

In case of repeated violations, proposed measures will be sent to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction.

Based on the review results of the units, we will handle according to authority and force the demolition of illegal constructions.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction requested all relevant units to urgently implement and submit a report of results before December 30, 2025.
