The two major state-owned banks, Vietcombank and BIDV, only sell SJC gold bars to customers who have opened accounts at the bank.
From July 29th, Vietcombank announced that it will only sell gold bars online to individual customers who have an active payment account at the bank. Customers who do not have an account must open one at Vietcombank before registering to buy gold.
Vietcombank explained that this change aims to improve service quality and customer information management, as well as develop cashless payments. Besides tightening the registration conditions for purchasing gold, the bank also changed its gold delivery policy. Accordingly, gold bars will not be delivered after customers register online and complete payment at the branch. The bank will deliver the gold on the next business day. This, according to the bank, is to "ensure the smooth and safe transportation of gold bars."
Tell According to VnExpress , a representative from Vietcombank stated that this new regulation only applies to online registration for purchasing SJC gold bars and does not change the payment or delivery process. "Customers can still use cash for transactions, but they need to transfer the money to a payment account at the bank's counter and complete the gold purchase via bank transfer," the Vietcombank representative said.
Earlier in June, BIDV also announced that it would only sell SJC gold bars to customers who already had accounts opened at the bank. The customer's account balance had to be sufficient to pay for the gold they registered to purchase.
The two remaining state-owned banks, Vietinbank and Agribank, have not yet announced any changes to their online gold purchase conditions. They still allow customers to buy gold even without an account at the bank.
Since the beginning of June, the State Bank of Vietnam has increased the supply of gold to the market by entrusting the direct sale of gold to four state-owned banks and SJC, in order to reduce the price difference between them. gold price a piece with the world.
After a period of "overload" due to long queues at bank branches, banks and SJC switched to issuing online queue numbers to customers and limiting the number of purchases per transaction.
However, registering to buy gold directly at the four state-owned banks and SJC has not been easy recently. The websites of the banks and SJC frequently experience a "cycle" of registration slots from the moment they open, and slots are quickly filled within minutes. These institutions also limit each person to a maximum of 1 tael of gold.
