Recently, in an interview with Tuoi Tre Online , the leader of the Border Police at Phu Quoc International Airport (Department of Immigration Management, A08, Ministry of Public Security ) stated that by mid-April 2025, South Koreans would be the leading international visitors to Phu Quoc.

The total number of South Korean visitors entering the country is approximately 480,000.

"Every day, international tourists arrive in Phu Quoc on about 8-10 flights out of a total of 20 flights. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of South Korean tourists to Phu Quoc only reached 233,000, an increase of over 100%," this person informed.

For this year's April 30th and May 1st holidays, leaders of the Border Police at Phu Quoc International Airport predict that the number of South Korean tourists will continue to surge in Phu Quoc and remain at the top of the list, while the number of other international tourists will remain stable without any sudden spikes.

On April 27th, explaining the irresistible appeal of Phu Quoc to international tourists from South Korea, Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, representative of Vietluxtour, stated that the Korean market share at Vietluxtour is the largest among the company's Asian tourist markets. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, this market has recovered and grown quite well, especially the Phu Quoc route.

"The common reason tourists choose Phu Quoc is their love for beach tourism and its diverse range of tourism, culinary , and entertainment options, all at lower prices than some other famous Southeast Asian tourist islands."

"In addition, Phu Quoc offers many experiences for tourists, from professional services, especially catering to Korean tourists, such as supermarkets, spas, and restaurants... while still allowing them to leisurely explore local culture and relax on Phu Quoc's famous beautiful beaches," Ms. Thu said.

According to Ms. Thu, there have been many positive reviews about Phu Quoc from tourists, and at Vietluxtour, Korean tourists are one of the markets with a fairly good return rate.

Therefore, to more effectively exploit this market share, according to Ms. Thu, businesses and travel agencies need to continuously innovate their products to increase the time spent, spending, and stay of Korean tourists, not only in Phu Quoc but also in other destinations such as Hoi An and Da Nang, which are also popular with tourists from this market.

South Korean tourists rank second only to Chinese tourists when choosing to visit Vietnam.

According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, among the top 10 largest markets for Vietnamese tourism in the first quarter of 2025, China ranked first, followed by South Korea in second place with 1.26 million visitors. These two markets contributed 47% of the total number of visitors to Vietnam.

In terms of growth drivers, the South Korean tourist market grew by 2.2% in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

According to the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, in the first quarter of 2025, Phu Quoc is expected to welcome over 2 million tourists, an increase of 66.5%; revenue from tourism activities is expected to reach more than 10.5 billion VND.

With positive signs in the first month of the year, Phu Quoc expects to reach and surpass the target of 7 million tourists in 2025.
