In August alone, thanks to the effect of activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached 1.68 million, an increase of 7.8% compared to July 2025. Revenue from travel and tourism in the first eight months of 2025 is estimated at VND 61,200 billion, an increase of 20.3% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, although it is currently the low season for international tourism, the positive results in July and August show clear signs of recovery and growth in the inbound international tourist market to Vietnam.
Of the nearly 14 million international visitors in the past eight months, 11.9 million arrived by air, accounting for 85.2% and increasing by 22.6% compared to the same period in 2024; 1.9 million arrived by land, accounting for 13.4% and increasing by 17.5%; and 187,800 arrived by sea, accounting for 1.4% and increasing by 13.4%.
In terms of markets, China and South Korea continue to hold the leading positions, contributing nearly half of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam. China is the largest source market with over 3.5 million visitors, accounting for 25.4%, while South Korea ranks second with over 2.9 million visitors, accounting for 20.9%. Other markets in the top 10 source markets to Vietnam include: Taiwan (China), the United States, Japan, Cambodia, India, Russia, Australia, and Malaysia.
In the first eight months of 2025, most European regional markets continued to experience strong growth, including key markets such as the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
Southeast Asian markets also performed well: Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand.
In particular, the number of tourists from the Russian market continued to grow very rapidly (164.9%). The outstanding growth of the Russian tourist market is a result of the tourism promotion and marketing programs in Russia implemented by the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, localities, and businesses in recent times.
Furthermore, the Indian market continues to demonstrate great potential and maintain stable growth. In September 2025, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration organized a tourism promotion program in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to strengthen Vietnam's tourism presence in this market, creating opportunities for businesses from both sides to connect, expand cooperation, and promote bilateral tourist exchanges.
According to Pham Van Thuy, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, India is a country with a rich history, the birthplace of many major religions such as Buddhism, and possesses many unique cultural heritages. India is not only a comprehensive strategic partner of Vietnam but also a great friend with extensive cooperation with Vietnam in many fields, including tourism.
Amidst the developing Vietnam-India relationship, tourism is becoming an effective bridge, contributing to strengthening the bond between the people of the two countries. In 2024, Vietnam welcomed 501,427 Indian tourists, nearly three times the number in 2019. In the first seven months of 2025 alone, more than 387,000 Indian tourists visited Vietnam, a 42.5% increase compared to the same period last year. India has also been among the top 10 markets with the largest number of international searches for Vietnamese tourism since 2022.
According to Deputy Director Pham Van Thuy, to facilitate Indian tourists, Vietnam has implemented a fast electronic visa (e-visa) procedure, allowing stays of up to 90 days, with single or multiple entries permitted. Simultaneously, the network of direct air connections between major cities of the two countries is expanding, while the safe, friendly tourism environment and hospitable Vietnamese people are contributing to memorable experiences for international tourists.
