Episode 9 begins with Geum Myeong (IU) as she participates in a student exchange program in Japan. In episode 10, she returns to Seoul and works part-time at a movie theater ticket counter, where she meets Park Cheong Seob (Kim Seon Ho), a movie poster artist. Their relationship gradually blossoms. Meanwhile, Geum Myeong's mother, Ae Sun, worries endlessly while her daughter is away from home. At the climax, Ae Sun visits and discovers Geum Myeong unconscious from carbon monoxide poisoning due to an electrical fault. In a desperate situation, Ae Sun breaks down the door to save her daughter, and Park Cheong Seob, who happens to be nearby, takes Geum Myeong to the hospital, thereby showing his deep feelings. These episodes also reveal the complicated relationship between Eun Myeong and Hyeon Seok, when Eun Myeong ends their love to protect Hyeon Seok from domestic violence.
Episodes 11 and 12 continue to explore Geum Myeong's challenges in love. Although she has been dating Yeong Bum since college, their relationship is hindered by Yeong Bum's mother's strong opposition. Episode 12 ended with an emotional moment when Park Cheong Seob, who had just been discharged from the military, ran into Geum Myeong again at a bus stop. He decided to chase after the bus she was on, as a last-ditch effort to get a chance to reunite and possibly start their relationship again. This ending opened up new hope for Geum Myeong's love, while also closing a tumultuous chapter in her life.
When Life Gives You Tangerines Episode 13 - 16 Content Prediction
The episode opens with Geum Myeong standing in a pure white wedding dress, her eyes sparkling with joy and hesitation. She waves through the glass, as if to say hello to a distant figure – it could be Yeong Bum, her ex-lover of seven years, or someone new in her life. The line echoes in her mind: "No matter who I'll meet again or who I'm meeting for the first time, my heart still beats fast."
The scene shifts to Geum Myeong on a bus, looking dreamily out the window. She is on her way to a date, but it is unclear who it is with – Park Cheong Seob, who saved her, or someone completely new. Her glimmer of hope is interrupted when she decides to return to Jeju, her hometown.
Here, the audience meets Yang Gwan Sik, Geum Myeong's father, with a haggard face and sunken eyes full of anxiety. The text appears: "An unforgettable winter is on its way." This sentence is intended to signal that Gwan Sik is about to die, leading to the scene of Ae Sun sitting in a nursing home.
In the countryside, the New Year's atmosphere is bustling with villagers gathering to watch fireworks on TV. But that joy is quickly overshadowed by unexpected events that happen to the characters in the film. The episode ends with Geum Myeong sitting on the Jeju beach, her eyes distant, as if sensing a great loss is approaching.
The upcoming episodes of When Life Gives You Tangerines may take viewers back to the beautiful memories of Gwan Sik and Ae Sun. A flashback shows them walking under the blooming cherry blossoms, Gwan Sik standing silently behind watching Ae Sun's radiant figure.
The scene cuts to Geum Myeong leaving the ceremony, and next to her are Gwan Sik's words to her, which he has told her over and over again since she was little, "If anything goes wrong, just retreat, I will always be here for you."
The final episode opens with Geum Myeong walking down the aisle in her wedding dress, but the audience doesn't see the groom - only the back of a mysterious man. Gwan Sik's voice from the past is heard: "If anything goes wrong, just retreat, I'll always be here for you." Geum Myeong smiles, as if she has found the answer for herself.
Cut to Geum Myeong receiving news that her father is hospitalized. She rushes back to Jeju, running after the hospital bed being pushed into the emergency room, tears streaming down her face.
In his coma, Gwan Sik dreams of the old days – when he waved goodbye to his mother and her four children from the boat returning home, when he and Ae Sun watched fireworks together on cold winter nights. But the harsh reality brings him back: the doctor informs him that he has terminal lung cancer and doesn’t have much time left.
Gwan Sik passed away on a cold winter night, leaving Ae Sun and her two children with an irreplaceable void. The scene of Ae Sun sitting absent-mindedly in the hospital, her trembling hands holding her husband's old coat, broke the hearts of the audience. She ran to the pier, which was once a place of happy memories for the family. Geum Myeong ran after her, hugging her mother tightly, both of them sobbing in the cold wind.
The episode alternates between Geum Myeong's grief over the loss of her father and the new pressures of life. Yeong Bum suddenly appears, begging her to come back, but Geum Myeong firmly refuses: "You don't understand, your family took away my self-esteem. I can't live with that." The final scene shows Ae Sun standing alone on the beach, looking out at the horizon, as if searching for Gwan Sik's silhouette among the waves.
The story shifts to Ae Sun's life after Gwan Sik's death. She begins working at a tangerine orchard in Jeju, which was once their shared dream. Despite the sadness, Ae Sun gradually finds meaning in her remaining days. Geum Myeong becomes an artist, inspired by Park Cheong Seob's paintings. One day, she runs into him again at an art exhibition. They don't say much, just standing together looking at a painting of Jeju, exchanging meaningful glances.
The episode ends with Ae Sun sitting in the nursing home, just like the opening scene of the film. She holds a tangerine in her hand, smiling slightly as she remembers Gwan Sik. The text that appears reads: "The four seasons have taken everything away, but they also left behind ripe tangerines. Live, and you will live." Fireworks explode in the sky over Jeju, as a final farewell from Gwan Sik to his beloved family.
